I'm almost jealous. As things stand I'm on the 4 year plan and don't really need any more wood, yet I wouldn't balk at the chance to sneak those bad boys home

Five. Maybe 1/3 of it. The rest of the stuff is gnarly, both beech and black birch, Still some nice stuff there but buried in the piles under gnarlys.
Would you mind posting a picture of the trailer when it is empty ? I am curious about the winch set-up on it. Been thinking about trying to put a similar arch on my small trailer so I am able to grab some logs for the mill , probably one I could remove when not needed. I can unload at home but need a way to load them in the field. Also what is the distance from the trailer deck to the bottom of the arch. Thanks.
Best pic I have at the moment. Shows winch but not much of the subframe that holds it and that’s really the important part. Could snap a few pics after the rain ends if you like. Extending a winch up on a frame was a bit of a gamble on my part. Not something you see done everyday. I have yet to see that frame flex more than an 1/8”. Got lucky with beefing it up I guess. If I were to do it over again I’d raise the winch even higher. As you load the trailer the rope can be interfered with by the logs. Another foot higher would be nice but it’s not that bad anyway. Not sure how high the arch is offhand. I had originally built it 8” higher but chopped it down immediately. Believe it or not just for looks. It just looked too tall LOL You are correct tho. Height is an obvious importance. I’ve modified my tongs to remove unnecessary length. Choose my snatch blocks carefully for length. At the same time too much height in the arm will make it more difficult to move the snatch block from different pick points. I have three. Seems to be enough. Anyway it’s just at the height where I have to stretch to switch pick points without climbing on the trailer. FWIW I also beefed up the rear pockets and underbody a bit on this trailer. Not entirely sure it was needed but an ounce of prevention. Trailers a lot tougher than I thought it would be before the purchase. Still there were a few gussets and welds beefed up on the rear. PS. Synthetic rope. Thought I would hate it but got a great deal on the winch. After having used synthetic rope I’d never buy a winch with steel cable again. Both have pros and cons but rope is so much nicer to use on a day to day basis. Don’t skimp on winch quality. Buy the best you can. Cheap winches are slow, unreliable, overrated, overheat and chew up battery power quickly. Hell, while I’m at it. Length of the controller cable is crucial. You want as long as possible.
Hahahahaha,,,,,no I didn’t. I’ve been thinking about that more now that I have this beech. Have a feeling it’s still there. Maybe when the weather dries up I’ll put some mucks on and take another look
