I have no problem with the old down draft tube engines. I would just rather convert to PCV. It doesn't affect performance and it keeps the underside from getting covered in oil residue. I was just pointing out that the PCV valve did some good without straining the manufacturers. I ran a car for several years with an open breather (PCV in place but the other valve cover breather not directed back to the air cleaner) and you would smell like oil after a long drive. I'm taking apart a couple of Hemis from the 50's right now with them still attached. I like the engines, just rather go with a PCV setup that looks unnoticeable.

I'm pretty sure tractors still use the downdraft tubes.

Plenty of cars, trucks and even trains catching on fire lately.
    And not so lately.

Things catching on fire sells newsprint. Always has, always will.

Calculators with AA batteries - not so much.

The "problem" isn't "EV" or batteries for power, but the quest for battery life/usefulness. It would seem safety is being compromised for 'usefulness'.
Not like there hasn't always been compromises made in design for affordability/whatnot. An argument could be made they need even more 'regulation'.

made in china batteries have been an issue for years. Manufacturers using B cells instead of A cells, cells not balanced with each other.
Selling B cells as A cells. Or even crappier grades. China has a huge issue with their homebrew EV's catching on fire.
Building batteries here should make it less common. It isn't regulation so much as Quality control and checks in place to meet specifications.
Look on amazon and see how many electric items are actually UL listed, most skirt it using another "cheaper testing" standard.

If they can't meet specs, they shouldn't be sold in this country, like radios that are not FCC spec'd.
    But greed...

I'm talking anyone who is pushing the "get rid of gas /diesel and make all things electric" load of crap. Vehicles, bicycles, scooters etc etc.

I do realize that there are so many good idea fairy ideas floating around out there, as well as bs agendas, that it might not have been clear what I was referring to....

I have a couple of problems with everything going electric.
1st the current power grid cannot handle our needs today. Not necessarily power generation but the power lines are way outdated. It will take longer than 10 yrs to upgrade all off them.
2nd if they want consumers to be more environmentally friendly make it easier/cheaper to generate your own power at home. Rather than force us to rely more on the grid.
3rd and most importantly the lithium.
How much environmental damage is the mining of lithium doing?
Recycling lithium batteries is almost non existent.
Talk to anyone thats tried to put out a lithium fire. It's like magnesium. Water doesn't do anything. You need a special foam to completely encapsulate it.

What we should be able to research is the investment portfolios of our "elected" officials who are pushing so hard for various mandates.

    Yup.
Another issue in my mind is how easy it will be for "them" to just flip the switch off, whenever they feel like it...oh, none of your stuff works, and your car wasn't charged enough to get out of town...oops, too bad. Shut up and do as we say, we'll take care of you.
Could be done with petrol too, but not nearly as easily, or as quickly.

I have heard that there are car sellers that install immobilizers in vehicles that have high risk buyers. Miss a payment and your car is a brick. Not sure how true it is.

    100% true.
I was referring to the power grid being flipped off, more so than just cars

Yes that’s very true. I used to have to deal with those companies on a daily basis. Basically easily bypassed by anyone with a tiny bit of electrical knowledge. Has a gps to activate it and track it and just has a relay tapped into the starter circuit so it wouldn’t turn over. change the power supply from No to nc on the relay and boom it runs.

I love the “mining lithium” is so bad argument. Here in the US, there are over 140 Superfund sites that are former mining sites. Where’s the concern been for everything else we mine? Seems pretty selective to me.
