Yep, everything was just right. Locust mania... maybe I'll start looking for it. Like mentioned, if I could find it as regular as RO, I'd hoard the heck out of it. Right now I have a line on a couple shagbarks. I've not burned anything that produces more heat. Stay tuned.
You'd best set that line & reel it in. Very little Shagbark in these parts, but what I've had was incredible.
Dang, I set the hook, hard. Stopped at homeowners house and talked for a while. Dead standing nice straight trees, no limbs. 30-40’. Planned to be there at 9a this morning, then got this:
I’d reply that you’d be interested in the wood if they do have them taken down. After having had the fever for a few years now I’ve come to this more lucid opinion. BL is one of only a few woods I can hoard as much as I want of and it won’t degrade in the pile. It just gets harder and better every year it sits. It’s a great long term investment. THats why I call it Black Gold LOL
I did exactly that. I told him, to save a few bucks have the insured tree guy drop them and I’d clean up everything after that.
Man that's a lot of locust, nice job. Tons of work there. Whenever I noodle stuff like that and have to take more than one trip, I always get paranoid someone else is going to come and scoop up the stuff I noodled! I try to only cut as much as I can take at one time then resume when I get back. Never had the issue happen but, I think just because I hate noodling, I'd hate even more if someone took my cuts. Anyway, glad that wasn't an issue for you because that's some prime looking wood!
Bummer wish it was closer 25inches x10 ft @276 bdft sawn into 1x6 decking $814.00 in lumber biggest locust I have had here at sawmill 35'' in diameter it was ugly but big !! JB
Make sure to offer up the FHC release form if they balk at letting you come cut after they're dropped!
I feel your pain. Same has happened to me. Mebbe you can still get the wood if an insured tree guy fels them, although you wont be getting paid. Was it a paying job Jason?
Finally got all this BL S/S. Those were a couple weeks ago^^. This was yesterday: And I stacked it all on top of this stack, minus chunks. Front row and 2 rows on top all BL, and I threw a piece of rubber on top. I need something larger.
NICE stacks, and no doubt you put some work into it! There was a big BL here on craigslist the other day, but, it was 40 plus miles one way. I figured it was gone before the add dried. So, didn't move on it. That is some nice wood you have there! And, you had your trailer!! really paid off in all ways. where did you get the little pump for the bags? HF? Been looking for one for mine as well
Got that one a long time ago for airing up Jeep tires after wheeling at 10psi. I've worked it long and hard and it keeps ticking. Its a Slime unit I believe we bought it at WalMart.
