Scored some walnut today. They are tearing out woods and tiling about 170 acres for farm land not too far away. I don't have a great connection over there, but most of the vultures are tired out and not gathering anymore. Good sized walnut, already onthe ground, waiting to be taken....so I took it. Going after a load of ash tomorrow. Already have enough oak for 16/17, so working on next winter's wood of some faster dying stuff now.
Nice score buddy. That stuff smells delicious when cutting and even better burning..... I'll be burning quite a bit of it this year, the stuff I'll be burning is from the big one i had milled several years back. It's been seasoning almost 2.5 years so it's more than ready......
I had a live walnut that my buddy cut down amongst a group of dead ash by mistake. He's a cut today, burn tomorrow guy so he sent it all with me. I split it small and six months later it was below 20%. I'm splitting this a little bigger hoping for better heat output. Good burning, but not the greatest heat. Still very nice to gave in the stacks. It's got a year to get gooder.
Oh yeah, going out tomorrow. Got lots of places to cut this year. I've found that having a big bad saw really helps with the invites to cut on the bigguns. At this rate I'll be officially in the three year plan by spring. And that's after selling 3 cord during the tough winter when I needed some money.
Sounds to me like you got a good plan in place. Git 'er dun! That's a nice load of Walnut. How much Ash is there?
The ash is available at a couple other spots. I also have 2000 acres to cut on after hunting season if I don't get snowed out by then. That was last year's plan too, but mother nature had other ideas. To answer your question...there is more ash than I can handle.
That pic btw is only two pickup loads and I only have a 5' 6" bed on my four door gmc. Good thing I put those 3/4 ton springs on last year after snapping both 3 leaf half tons. Don't mind the mule......
Love me some walnut! I love the smell of it. In a good spot you could burn it, but in two years you'll really like it. Splits typically pretty easy. Great loads and get it while you can.
I have a lot of that for next year. Glad to hear you guys like it. After a very long 3 day work week and traveling for thanksgiving I'm out of the FHC loop! Trying to sit down now and catch up on everything I've missed!

Nice job! I love walnut, some think it smells bad but I kind of like it. It dries pretty quick also so that's a plus. When burning it does pop a bit though.
