I didn't get out to the woodlot across the big field in front of my house yet this fall, there are a couple dozen shags over there growing. I love those nuts on vanilla ice cream with maple syrup drizzled over them.....wow is that ever good!!!!
Going out about every 7 -10 days since my last report I managed to grab some more each trip - anywhere from 1 to 3 pounds. Here's season total just over 14 pounds in the big box,2nd photo is about 2 more picked last Friday 11/15.Very hard to spot them now, that latest cold snap (12 degrees last Tuesday morning) finally brought down 90% of the oak leaves - most of the hickory & other leaves had fallen in past 3-4 weeks. There's still a few out there, should be able to get another pound or two next week before calling it quits.... If my back would cooperate & I could spare the time -there's easily 100lbs of them on the 10 acres - but I'll leave the rest for the squirrels, chipmunks, wild turkeys & to reseed the bare spots.I've stomped a few in the ground at random spots already. Best crop since 2008,last year barely found 3 pounds.
