Great post, and great reminders! I've been felling a lot if that smaller stuff, 8-12", and only downed a 16" elm as my biggest this season. All the big cherry I had was left over from cutting 2 years ago. Tomorrow is supposed to be a lot less windier than today. I hate felling trees when it's windy.

I actually think the "hickory" was ash. That was my first impression of what I thought it was on the ground. When I went to split it , it was dryer and split easier than hickory should. So I am going with Ash now.

Ash is nice wood too. I wont kick an ash out of my trailer bed. Lol. It's definitely easier to split than hickory.
