I am perplexed why one would own a pro line saw of any make that wouldn't run. Wouldn't a sensible person have it fixed? To do the same thing over and over and expect a different result is the definition of insanity. Sometimes working hard is not a substitute for working smart. BTW, I'll up the offer and give your father $225 for the 372XP. If it truly is the POS you say, it would be foolish not to take it.
Sounds like it needs a carb tune. There's a reason it doesn't start right so why not take it to the dealer if it was just bought recently. Are you guys using the decomp when you start it? If its a new one with a top decomp try without it when you're starting it.
Now that's smart. Professionals have & take are of their own tools. Some do preventative maintenance, some don't, time is money on both sides of that equation. My belief, is maintenance prevails every time ! Then it works when needed instead of breaking right when it's needed I agree with you when using someone else's tools, don't like to do it, you just don't know the little tricks & nuances of their tools. Glad your rant is over. LOL
