I’m hosting my Memorial Day BBQ at the cottage this year. I’m expecting 20-30 adults and probably a dozen or so kids. I’m also expecting Chaz and his Chazsbetterhalf, but I’m not sure which category they fall into. I just picked up a new pellet smoker to keep at the cottage; and not to be outdone, my dad showed up yesterday with his new grill. My mom made a cover for it and gave me a really neat set of grilling tools. This ball was our old dog Otis’s favorite toy. He lost it at the cottage 2 years ago. It reappeared this morning out of the blue next to my new grill. He always loved my BBQ... Anyway, here’s the first round. Two 15lb turkeys for cold cuts. What’s on your smokers for Memorial Day?
We have hickory if you want some. We are going to be on the road before long. Probably be there by 4.
Wow! That’s great news! Y’all are in for a treat, as Shawn Curry is super gooder people.... His better half Amy is wonderful too So glad y’all are meeting up- I think I can safely say for the group here that we’re anxiously awaiting some pics of Chaz and Chazsbetterhalf throwing down with the Curry Gang!
The food turned out great. Unfortunately I don’t have any “after” pics because I left my phone charger home. The new smoker was an absolute luxury compared to my old one. And so was the cottage - my dad had collected several stainless steel tables over the years and they were great for all the prep work.
The food was great, as well as the people we've met this weekend. Many thanks to Shawn Curry for inviting us to the BBQ.
X2... Glad to hear the smoker did good.... always makes spending the money a little easier knowing that you got a quality product....
Didn't take a whole lot of pics, too busy jabber-jawing, drinking beer, and stuffing my face with great food. Here's one I got of Shawn with the sun setting behind him. We made it home and got everything unpacked and put away, now it's time to relax for a bit. One bad accident, and we think a parade forced us to take some alternate routes home, but it wasn't too bad. Hope everyone's Memorial Day weekend was as good as ours has been.
I’ve got a large Egg and a Bradley electric at home. The Egg is an excellent smoker but it’s undersized for my BBQ - I can fit one whole turkey but that’s it. I could have got 3 in this one no problem. The Bradley helped a lot with the ribs, but it all just took a lot more planning. I did manage to get an after pic this morning.
Looks like more lifelong friendships being forged here at FHC! Thanks for sharing the pics and the food looked awesome, buddy!
Kinda got to thinking about this in the pellet smoker thread, but didn't wanna sidetrack that thread with un-necessary banter. Shawn Curry gave us a warm welcome, even if I could see that I was not who he 'expected' to see. I hadn't thought to warn him (or all of you, I guess) to the fact that I'm a 49 yr man with quite a beer belly, and LONG hair. My wife is 65yrs, and I'm sure that was not evident before the fact either. But, that said, he was a gracious host, and showed us a warm welcome and we had a great weekend. So, I once again thank Shawn for the enjoyable weekend that we had with him and his family, and only hope that you and yours enjoyed our company as well. Chaz
If you want one more you can have it. It's an industrial grade one piece SS corner counter top with 2 SS sinks. The long side is about 8' and the other side is about 5' Looks like this but mirror image
