The Timberline was a straight-up heat blaster, even after I converted it to secondary air. I always used double-wall on it and the probe still went to 900+ if I wasn't careful.
I loved that stove, no if's, ands, or but's. The flue temps. always concerned me, and it was a "all-or-nothing" burner, if you wanted it to burn clean. So..I went with the BKK

I have seen 900 on the stove top a few times. I have never seen the metal change colors as a result of that temp. The glass door gets over 1000 routinely. Dat b hot!

I use to run at 750-800 STT with 15' of straight up flue. I would see flue probe temps of 1000-1100F occasionally. It ran around 800-900F normal flue probe temps. For such a low chimney height I had a tremendous amount of draft! It really needed a damper. I've moved the stove to a new house now with 22' of flue but it has 2 90's in it. It is amazing the difference that made on draft! Now it runs at 550-600 STT and my flue temps always stay between 400-500F probe temps. I can sometimes get 600F flew temps if I leave the air open too long but that is not even close to concerning. I can actually run my stove with my air control set and 1/8 to a quarter open now and crank it. With the old setup I would shut id down immediately after a reload and it still cruised to 1000F flue temps. For strong draft situations like you guys have I would try a flue damper. Should give you longer burn times and lower those flue temps a bit

Yes, double that temperature for interior temps. That is not an absolute but a pretty darned good estimate.

I usually see single wall pipe temps a little less than half the STT. Measured 18" above the flue collar.

,I run the SW pipe With magnet mount gauge, Between 300 and 400, No less than 300, So I assume this would be about, 600 and 800, One time on my gauge I had it up to 500
When the stovetop is 600 to 650, On my gauge the pipe will be 325 to 350

If you double your SW temps thats about right on with the temps I see from my probe temp gauge.

I have and insert and cannot read the actual clue temp. Doors normally are 450-600 stove top through the grate with and infrared runs anywhere from 400-650 and the collar about 6" up is in the 300-475 range most of the time. Thinking this is not ideal, but not sure how I can get a flue temp. Whenever I get the collar area up to 500 or so the stove in my opinion is running too hot for it's own good...700 on doors and in the 650 range on the top. What is a good translation from collar to flue? I have a double wall air cooled flue.
