Personally I have both. I have the good assortment that which I can choose from and not worry about the wood so much unless I really got to whack it to get it apart, then the heavy stuff comes out that you pull a handle and then pressurized grease pushes sharp metal on a wood round in hopes of splitting it without much of the wood screaming. But I digress.
Glad you pulled the trigger on a good splitter! Ive contemplated this road on a fiskars but honestly I think another addition is just going to be more “crap”

I went with the Stihl splitting axe a while ago and really like it. Outside of its great performance, what I like most about it is the steel collar on it. I'm a tire splitter and try and get my heart rate way up when I split so generally I'm going full berserker.:dex: With the collar I don't have to worry about over strikes.

Well, well, well. I bought both the Fiskars x27 and isocore maul. I just now tested them out today. I have only split 3 very large rounds of softwoods (cedar) but the maul has won me over. Both have their uses, no doubt, but with that maul, I see no reason why I will ever have to buy a splitter. I mean I took 6 whacks per piece and it was done. What a joy that thing is! I just stood the pieces up on soft ground too. The true test comes later this spring when I go through about 2 cords -- but instead of dreading it -- I'm looking forward to it.

    Good call Greg.
