Oh yeah, I wasn't complaining, I thought it was funny.

Just finished trimming and bringing a couple sled loads to the deck. Man I can't wait to get through these piles that I have to trim to length. Expecting a good ole nor'easter this week so better to do it now than after 16" of snow. Chilly here at 15° and prolly 15mph winds.

Yes that can be a pain and I feel your pain! I had a bunch I had to do that to until I got a bigger stove. Now I don't have to be as selective. I can take anything up to about 22" without issue. With the old stove if it was anything over 16.5" it just wouldn't fit. Needless to say I have 8-9 cords worth of time waisted trimming to 16.5" that will now go into the new stove that fits 18" n/s, 22" e/w. If I lived closer I would gladly trade you and spare you the time!! And my stove would load up full a lot nicer! All part of the scrounging fun!

In my case it's the wood pile the previous owners left behind. It's also my only seasoned stash as a new homeowner so can't complain too much. Excited to get some nice weather to do get my 3yr plan going.

In other news I got the tires and had them mounted last night. Ended up going with a special from TireRack, picked them up from their distribution center in Windsor and had Firestone mount them. Pics when I put them on the trailer.

Started to run wires tonight and mount the tires only to find out the guys at the shop mounted one of the tires backwards. Clearly says "outside" on the sidewalk which is opposite the valve stem and outer side of rim. Geesh this saga continues

Made a wood rack like your pick from black pipe. Worked great and held a boat load of wood! SAM_0050_1.jpg

    Looks good!

Added fasteners to the tailgate since the sides bow out when loaded up. Dad snagged these off something. Jen tossed at his work. Also got tire mounted (the right way) and worked in the wiring, still some more to go.

Been away for a bit. Got back from vacation and finally got the trailer finished up. Had to replaced the home cheapo galvanized bolts that kept snapping with some grade 8s.

Now it's ready for the DMV.

Happened to drive by a roadside score on the way to get the bolts. Biggest red oak I've ever seen plus a good sized ash I think.

Picked up a free load of red oak that's been sitting outside for a year. I jumped on it since I have lots of green wood that makes year 3+ of my 3 year plan great but not doing much for my 1-2 year supply.

Went back to work on the red oak and holy crap. Only got through 2 rounds due to noodling and splitting with wedges into manageable pieces. I've been ready to get a splitter and I might need to bring it onsite for this one. A good kick in the pants to get it anyway.

Finally cut the opening in the deck railing. This will make bringing wood to the back door so much better. No more stacking on railing or needing a buddy to hand it over the railing.

Thanks guys. Yes the barn overhang has about 3 cord of rounds I need to spit and stack. It's only temporary as I have a cement slab that I'm going I stack on. I intended to put an outdoor sink and game butcher station.

As far as the seasoned oak smell, it might be white cause it didn't have that red oak funk to it. Just had a guy at church ask me if I wanted an oak and two maples he's cutting up. Asked me what length I wanted it cut to even!

I cut into some skid stringers about 2 months ago that were red oak and whew. I won't be forgetting that but I'll know what is all the fuss about when its split. Dissipates pretty quick if its seasoning ok I hear. The stuff I cut was just stinky until now I don't smell it as much. Faint. But I have one that I have yet to cut again. Kid barf in a hot room.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the difference between 22 ton and 27 or 30.
If you do the math, they almost all have the same size pump, and it can only do so many gpm.
A higher rating often means a slower cycle time, and often the tonage numbers are optimistic.
I'm very happy with my 20 ton predator from harbor freight, though I remember somebody running the numbers and coming up with 19 tons one way and 17 the other.
I scrounge everything I burn, and plan on six cords a year. Before I got the predator, I could just barely get enough split for the winter, now I'm working on two years plus.
Just recently I scored a monster maple, 5 feet plus at the ground. This thing is so tough my fiskars x27 just bounces off, and the predator sometimes can't Crack it, then I have to beat it off the wedge with the fiskars maul and try another spot.
I'm quartering the rounds with the saw and still can't lift them.
Instead I use a ramp to roll them up onto the splitter table.
I would recommend you get a hookaroon to save your back moving rounds and stacking splits. I just got the fiskars XA22 and can't believe the difference.
