Came upon another Craigslist score! Lucky for me I got to cut my own lengths so I won't have to trim it later. 550xp for reference. And I thought the last one would be nice to have a bigger saw haha
Gotta give ya credit!! That there would fall into the to big to mess with category for me. Don't get me wrong, I like to work, but something like that just makes my back hurt looking at it. And also the wear and tear on an undersized saw isn't something I want to risk with the money I have invested. Again Kudos to your ambition and the score!
Oh I haven't come close to tackling the trunk, that's just a picture of what was there. I was working with 10-18" diameter pieces - figured I'd work my way up from manageable haha. That little saw rips! Here's another photo from where I was working
Grabbed dad and got a fourth load and have him the wood since his stash is almost gone. Homeowner came out and thanked me and noted my hard work and persistence. Got a text today from a friend who has a friend that had a big tree taken down to see if I wanted it. Pretty sure people contacting me means I gained another rank as a hoarder haha.
I knew a man that used to cut that big stuff with a 16" bar on a Homelite XL. he would cut all the way around then take wedges and a maul and split off chunks then cut and split some more then cut the center to length. He would work at it all day for a load of wood. He always said it was his therapy. It never looked like he was over exerting himself just slow and steady.
Knocked out 3 loads today (2 of mine and 1 for dad) with a buddy. Had some big pieces we either split or rolled up a ramp. I'm making good progress on the 3yr plan. Spent the evening working on a barrel stove for maple syrup evaporating.
Looks pretty seasoned out. I wouldn't burn bottom row till it sits high up for a while. Termites all in there. Bring in house and they come alive.
Added another load to Maple Mountain this week from my Craigslist score. I never thought I'd be this far ahead in wood so it might look like hydraulics are in my future. Any favorites? Buddy has the Ariens 22 ton that I've run and it seems pretty good. I like the Husky (and my local dealer) but the price seems high.
Got another load for dad and a load for myself to add to maple mountain. Also stopped and looked at the husqvarna splitter. Looks real nice, trying to compare to the ariens. Dads old Chevy was sagging with this load, it was fun to drive behind him. Started the process of getting the trailer road worthy. Put a new coupler on it so it'd be the standard 2" instead of the 1 7/8s. Of course the couple holes didn't line up and we had to drill a new one and didn't have quite a big enough bolt so did a temp job to get it back to my barn. Also tried to put my dads old truck wheels and tires on and of course they didn't fit. Now I have no idea what the bolt pattern is. Aired up the flat tire and hoped it'd hold the couple miles back to my barn, luckily it did. Now to add lights, new tires, fenders and maybe some paint.
