I hardly trust her with a butter knife. Plus she has a bad shoulder, knees, and a foot the Dr.'s can't even explain how it got that way.
She's a teacher, so probably kicking her foot against something immovable.
    She needs proper training.

I think am quoting the Sandra Bullock film where she plays a beauty queen movie, groin, eyes, throat.

That would hurt plenty, but you need the muscle memory to enact it. That takes repetition. Training. It needs to be second nature.

That's it!! Now go get some protective gear for yourself so she can practice and get muscle memory.

I'm about 1200 miles away from her.
Trust me, if I lived close she wouldn't have to worry. Big Brother syndrome- nobody messed with my lil' sis.

Just kidding:rofl:  Though I have heard of boot camp crash courses for self defense specifically for women. Hopefully there is one near where she lives:)

R.A.D (rape aggression defense) - if they have it way over there. It is often free, or very low cost from PD's. I went thru this with a bunch of older LOH gals (I'm in mid-50's). Never a bad idea to have options - especially in the case of a surprise grab from behind where you can't get to a sharp, pointy object or high-velocity projectile device. This is not a single technique, but several options to choose from. The manual is not all that great, but our instructors were great and didn't follow the manual religiously - took the useful stuff and let us choose to (or not) read the rest of it. Lots of practice and then the last class is going thru several surprise scenarios with padded up "aggressors".

Reading through all these post has my blood boiling again!
I was just about to throw away (donate) all my martial arts gear. Now I'm going to have to re-think it and maybe start training again! I really enjoy it and with the possible layoff coming, well.....

Wildwest, she is not doing martial arts. Maybe is stated somewhere, that I would like her to do it. For her protection and physical conditioning. For the physical conditioning thing, she goes to the Y for swimming. She is a fish, loves the water and can do that activity for her entire life.
