Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I hand filed my chain without any file guides using my stump vise. I am happy to say I got it nice and sharp, the saw cut nice and straight like a hot knife in butter. It self feeded nicely, and had no weird pull or vibrations. The cut face on the logs I cut was much smoother than the logs cut by other people. I plan on touching up the chain after every tank or two. Ok, gonna switch browsers and try to upload pics. Stay tuned...
So here is the load of ash from today (just in truck, on the ground is red maple), and the pile of ash total from yesterday and today. That pallet was empty yesterday, the stack of rounds is about 8' long, 3-4' high, and two rows of 16" rounds deep. Lookin' gooder.
Great news, I went over and gifted my elderly neighbors some nice dry cherry splits and he is going to gift me with a little red Craftsman chainsaw! He cannot use it any more, and figured I would give it a good home. I can get it tomorrow when his wife's car is not in the garage, cannot get to the shelf right now. Definitely gonna be stacking some more cherry on their porch! They don't burn for heat, just ambiance so I figure cherry is perfect. I also have some pics to upload, been a very busy woodchuck today. Right now, I am taking a much needed break. Whew, red maple is some heavy stuff.
Have some pics from this week. Theses first two pics are huge splits that I sledged and wedged outta those two huge rounds I have my hand on from the first pics in this thread. Each pile was one round, big uns.
I don't let my rounds ride in the front seat anymore, I let them do it once. Now they want to do it all the time!
I'm gonna' hafta' have more patience next time. You obviously got that pic thing down........and the wood scrounging thing too. Fantastic. Um, what's with the 1/2 machete? That's one heckofa blade.
Yea, I was thinking the same thing. The first pic with tools and the wood stacks that's a beautiful pic... Great job there and that ought to put a big o' on the face...
