Sometimes the best scores just come to you....

An arborist acquaintance was working a block down the road yesterday taking down a mulberry while I was outside sealing our fence. Very fortuitous that I happened to be home.

I asked him if I could go over and grab some of the wood once they finished. He told me he'd have his guys separate the smaller limbs from the stuff big enough to burn and leave it for me. But then, about half an hour later, he came by and asked if he could just drop the good stuff off in our yard. I guess that way he could make sure the site was totally cleaned up. I said 'of course!'

He brought 4 or 5 loads with one of those articulated mini-loaders with turf tires. Pretty cool machine. Most of the trunk is around 18" (like that piece in the foreground). The flare at the base is 28". And an assortment of limbs in the 6-10" range. Great score!

Not quite as sweet of a deal, but still loads of mulberry. Old buddy bought a overgrown property 40 minutes from me with 15 mulberry trees, half a dozen Siberian elms a a few silver maples that he wants gone. Back right up to them all and don't have to haul any brush, just stack it up as best as possible. There is another guy cutting as well, but no hurry necessary. Couple of 4 hour days netted these two loads. Dropped 3 large trees and a few small ones. Shout out to all of you pros that can notch well. Its definitely harder than it looks.
