Having an open hearth when I bought the house I'd burn <1/2cord which wasn't too bad to keep up with an 12lb maul.
Once I mad the decision for the stove and the goal of no more propain, it became fairly obvious keeping ahead on wood splitting by hand was going to be difficult, my coworker put a stove in the same year and we went halves on the dual splitter.
I went from swinging a maul for ~6-8hrs to get 1/3-1/2cord depending on species(cutting, gathering s/s).....after the L5-S1 herniation that wasn't happening no more.
With the hydros I can put up 1.5 cords easy in day counting travel and plenty of beer drinking while I gaze at the stacks:drunk:
I still use the maul/wedge on the rounds to uneven to roll up on the splitter or load in the trailer out in the woods

haha, yeah, I've pounded on that thing a few times.....she's the 'blaster', she'll blast apart rounds for a guy so he can get his other buried wedges out

If I ever bring it back to the house, at least this gives me ideas.
Though I've yet to stick the wedge on the Speeco 22t . LOL, :)

Your right. Depending on wood type I can outsplit hydraulics til I wear out. Just bought a used homemade rig to help out.
