Yeah, it's kinda ridiculous ain't it. I'm sure there's a better way, but I don't know what it is.....
Got em all set in concrete today.....25 bags mixed by hand....glad I've got a couple good strong sons to help!

Sawdust Man Do you ever “dry set” your posts? With corner and brace fence posts we just put the sakrete in around the post and tamp in then let the ground moisture setup the mix. Seems to work great for us and saves the mixing step. Really enjoying your thread! I had wanted to get a small mill but waited too long and age has taken its toll now..
Never have tried that method..... not sure I'd be comfortable using it for a building, but definitely a good idea for fence posts.
Got all the rafters up, and everything all squared & straight...... ready for the 1x4's in the morning.
Making good progress there. Were those rafters milled? Will the strapping be cedar "scraps"? Metal roof i assume?
Rafters are town lumber... I don't have any pine logs available for framing lumber atm, and I really don't enjoy building with oak.... The 1x4's are cedar leftovers from making cants. Yup metal....I got a deal @ $.61 per SQ ft.
Oak is tough stuff...and heavy (reminds me of another ex GF) Ive helped install metal a couple times but have never bought it. Seeing it partly completed has me wanting to put firewood in it.
