That's some really nice logs. Good straight, solid wood. Glad you could save them.

So far I mostly cut every size.....lol
I get a lot of requests for the impossible, such as 1000 1x12x8'............ or one guy wanted seven 13"x 13" x 24 feet long!
The most common thing folks want is board and bat siding, but it's just hard to find cedar big enough to get even 1 by 8's let alone 1x10 - 1x12's!
I've cut quite a bit of plain ol' 4x4 2x4 and 2x6 building boards.

I hear ya. Big cedar is a rare thing, let alone scoring one for milling. I marvel at the size of some of the ones you get. Most of the stuff we've cut will go 1x6 sometime 1x8. A lot of it was random length i scored at the dump or roadside so short. His mill will take 42"- 120+" length. Couple times this year ive had the luxury to cut myself and went 8'.

Most of what I get to cut is 5-8" max. It's really cool being able to get my paws on some nicer stuff this time.
The best part is, the dozer guy is really liking working with us, so it's got the potential of turning into a lot more wood in the future.

Thats great. Good to have connections. Hope it produces lots of cedars/trees for you.
Cut up a down cedar today and got 124' out of it. Sapwood too bad and maybe the fattest log will yield a 4x4. Ill save the others for some future use.

I use the little logs as runners for firewood stacks.
Have also made live edge slabs outta 3" cedars for stall divider walls in the pig barn.
    I'll post a pic sometime if'n I can remember.....

The size of those logs is something. Seldom seen that big around here. Youre right about quality too. Scored a couple nice cedars last Winter and one had ants and decay inside.:hair:

Thats the coolest thing to see it go from a tree, to a log, to boards/lumber to finished product. Something only we can appreciate. Id be sitting on that porch staring at that all day.
A thing of beauty there SM!

    Thanks Brad,
It's definitely improved since we started on it.

My bil is totally in love with the porch.
My sister on the other hand.....is difficult to get any kind of noticable positive impression out of.... but, even she was very pleased with the end result on the porch.

She's been around builders all her life, so it takes more to impress her I guess...lol

Make some lattice and that for sure will impress her. This was made from a small cedar log felled by my stepdaughters BF. Just sitting in the wooded area where the power pole went in. We milled it thin and i made lattice to used on part of their porch. IMG_1813.JPG
