Our dump takes everything, but the public takes unfair advantage... The pile that is supposed to be wood construction waste has everything from hot tubs to vinyl siding. They don't have the manpower to police what people dump. Now that China isn't taking our recyclables anymore, I see a crisis in the making.

The county commissioners decided to close our dump, contract out the garbage pick up. They have a small area that has about 6 roll-off dumpsters, a tire cage, and another dumpster for small loads. They will allow you to bring 2 pick up loads a day. Car tires are 2.50 each, tractor tire are 27.50. I hauled my 7x12 dump trailer full of termite infested wood out of an old barn. They told me the size of my trailer would be $100. I told them I wasn't a contractor and show my card for paying property taxes. Was able to dump for $0....crazy.

You would think the great united states could come up with some way to recycle our own stuff in stead of depending on a foreign country....
Its kinda interesting hearing how these dumps work state to state..local to local....my area...there not chit for free...it used to be our township would have it that you could bring stuff into township building n drop off once a year....no more!

That's a sweet score, definitely FHC thread worthy. Now you can say "you haven't burned seasoned wood until you've tried 25 year seasoned wood." I had a few chunks of ash, maybe half of a stove load, that was 12-15 years old. It was a thing of beauty.

I think that’s how I am attempting to keep my sanity with all the back to school nonsense this year; or it’s my way of fighting the withdrawal of going back to work after my first summer of not working for anyone but myself!

I’m really looking forward to it. I have a fear of it nearly “evaporating” in the stove. I’ve never burned anything older than 3 years.

Once it's cheaper to do here than ship it to China, we will figure it out. Small industries are popping up already, there is a local guy who started a pallet repair and delivery service - cheaper than ordering new and he's doing ok, though I don't know if it has anything to do with china.. There will be more.
