I used the 4540 twice today clearing slush and ice off this section of our driveway, some of it is down to the gravel and the rest should be gone by Sunday if not before. Since we have a real warm day tomorrow with rain coming in for the weekend, I'll put the forks on and pop the snow up that was packed down by the groomer and snowmobiles over the winter along the road to the entrance of our woods, the rain should take care of the rest.
They look good until they start shedding the winter coat, then you can see how skinny some are. We didn't get a ton of snow and we did have some rain during the winter so they were able to eat smaller trees that had been covered and what the wind put down. If we get the inch of rain starting on Friday night through Saturday, that will get rid of more snow which will help the deer out.
I thought that I had the original picture of this widowmaker but I deleted it a few months back. My first pull snapped the cable (my fault, I went to quick) so after fixing the cable I did a nice slow indirest pull until I saw it was going so I pulled harder. It landed closer to the tractor then I liked (15 feet) with all sorts of dead pine branches flying but everything was fine. I took two loads over to the splitting area with most of the main trunk still up. Picture 3012 is how the widowmaker was sitting in the other pine. It's a mess up there in that area so I'll work on cleaning that up so we can plant a few hemlocks.
Thanks but it didn't come down like I planned but it's down and that trail is safer until the next widowmaker.
We've been cleaning up a mess in the Brook before we get some heavy September rains, today I finally had some seat time in the 4540, we pulled two wet & heavy Hemlocks out with the tractor. I did cut the Hemlocks in half after lifting them up using the bucket with straps, we have two left but before we remove the last two, the area we're working in will need some cleanup. I haven't been taking the camera since I've been in the Brook most of the time, hopefully I can get some pictures when the jobs done.
It looks like tomorrow I'll pull 4 or 5 smaller stumps with the 4540, some are in the trails but cut down enough I can drive over them and the rest are in one of the areas I plow snow in.
Like I said there were no big stumps pulled today, 2 came from the trails and 2 more came out of a snow storage area. I did use the loppers and rake today on these areas, all the small runners were cut since some areas will see the trail mower.
Thanks T.Jeff Veal , it's that time of year when I start looking at the trails & snow storage areas. I have lots of cleanup along the trails this year, usually I'll do some during the summer but since it rained almost every day, the trails never received there yearly cleaning.
