We didn't get all the rain they called for (that's ok) so it didn't take away the ice I thought it would. I scraped the driveway down and then back dragged it so it wasn't bad today with the temps at 41 but tomorrow with the temps around 12 it will be like ice. Parts of the driveway will get some ash and another part will get sand.
Not bad later in the day, ice topped with slush. I did the same back dragging and was surprised how well it worked. The grizzly plow would never have dug down like that. I didn't get everything, but was able to reduce the ice significantly. What kinda weather you seeing tonight? We'll have the transition to snow only dropping to the low to mid twenties then teens tomorrow for a high.
We heading to 9 tonight with some snow, our driveway will be nice tomorrow............for skating. Last year I was just getting use to plowing with the FEL and then the third function kit came in for the plow.
Since I don't have any plans on using the 4540 for the next two days, I decided that the battery tender would go on it since the temps will be below zero at night.
I would like to but I have to check the snow depth out first before we get the tractor in that area. The snow at the road gets packed down by the trail groomer and all the sleds plus it never gets any sun in that area so it can stay deep. I'll also check our lowest filter on the tractor, I really don't want to tear one off. The lowest filter is on the bottom right if you're sitting in the drivers seat, I'm just not sure if it's oil or hydraulic fluid.
Sounds like a hydraulic filter. Those and the plastic under-mount fuel tank concern me on my tractor. Sounds like a spot for a winch - I’m all done with mine, so come borrow it and fish them out from a high and dry spot!
I was warned about the plastic side/under mount fuel tanks when we were looking at tractors, the trees still up so we'll see what this ice jam does. If it were level coming in from the road the tractor would be in there tomorrow but it drops off pretty good.
We decided that we would take a ride to Tupper Lake N.Y., the white truck in picture went from ice fishing to doing doughnuts on the ice. The winds were coming across the frozen water pretty hard so we didn't stay outside long.
I haven't started the 4540 in three or four days so tomorrow we'll start it up and then maybe get some junk wood for an outside fire. We've had the battery tender on it so it should start.
Back here the pines usually block some of the wind but not today, I left the 4540 hooked up to the battery tender for another day until the windchills come down.
After starting up the 4540 I it warm up for about 15 minutes, I packed down some snow on the driveway which worked well in some areas but not so well in others.(all ice) Most of the pictures are the next area that I'll start cleaning up the dead pines, the thin chit first. In the last picture, you can see my entrance for the rhino. The last picture has some wood that has been up for three years and the wood to the left has been up two years so once we're done with the rack we're burning from, it's next.
I'll start on that this week sometime, hopefully I can widen that entrance and then limb up some trees so the 4540 can get in there. We plan on dropping some of the bigger pines for milling. We would also like that area for storage of some trailers and for a splitting area.
We received about four inches of snow overnight so after we put some wood in (more snow coming in) I'll see what I can do with the 4540 about packing some snow down on top of what I did yesterday. Last year at this time my weight was 232 or 233 so I ended up at 204, this year I'm 222 so my target weight is 215. I'll hit that by the end of the third week of February.
Nothing but rain here. Driveway is a sheet of ice even after scraping it yesterday. Hope it’s gone by the time I get home from work. Lots of snow expected Wednesday but that forecast has changed a few times in the past 2 days.
Hammy , for our area on Wednesday they're calling for 4-8 inches which will be nice for the snowmobile trails. We have one rack that will be opening up by later tomorrow so we put in two smaller loads of firewood today. After putting in the wood, I took off the battery maintainer and then started the tractor. After letting the 4540 warmup for 15 minutes, I packed down the snow on top of the ice on our driveway and then did our neighbors driveway, the tractor hit 350 hours today.
I put five gallons of fuel in the 4540 today so tomorrow we're set for clearing the 7-8 inches coming in late tonight through 2/8/18. I cleared out our neighbors driveway out by the road, the wind can fill that driveway in pretty quick.
