We're in for a stretch of this so I just might leave the trickle charger on it for a few days and then start it. We've been thinking about a new garage for the boat and tractor so we'll start getting things together on what we need and more important......what we can afford.
I'll be crossing that bridge at some point. Have had a shelter logic style garage, worked great. I'm looking at metal canopy style that i can close off in the back, mainly for the tractor, quads, boat, etc. We bought the place and it only has 2 small sheds. We wanted an outbuilding while house hunting, but this one lacked any. Ill likely build something possibly, we'll see. The list never ends
I'm not sure how much taxes will go up if we have one built so maybe a call to the county or town assessor will be needed, maybe a shelter logic out front where I can get an extension cord would be better.
I'm glad we brought in that Oak from the 2012 scrounge, it's burning nice with the Beech. We'll do a load before I call it a night.
Just loaded up for the night. We're expecting another night mirroring last night's temps. I hope the wind stays calm. Stay warm!
Non permanent structure shouldn't get taxed. That's my fear as well. After a 3 bay woodshed, center will be storage for splitter, mauls, etc another storage for the toys and another glorified shed/ workshop,
We're at -16 so I through a bag of pellets in the pellet stove and then put it in the manual mode for the night. In the Liberty we have some Beech, Sugar Maple and Oak throwing some nice heat, the humidifier will have a tough time keeping up.
We were going to put a lean on barn to store the tractor but time/money is needed elsewhere this summer. We bought a Shelter Logic 12x10x24 round too shelter. For it on sale for $600 Canadian. Got a load of gravel and about $100 bucks in other aupplires to keep it anchored to the ground. The little twist in anchors won’t hold up to much wind. I didn’t have much faith they would last much but if you go to YouTube and search Paul Short shelter. He has some videos of these shelters standing up to crazy Newfoundland winds. The 10 feet high is important as I don’t have to fold the ROPS down as they have my flood lights on them. Long enough that I have room at the back to store my pallet forks and the hay spear so I don’t have to search though the snow to find them. I put mine up behind my shop so I could run and extension cord for the block heater and it protects it from the wind. Very well built for the money and if I get 5 years out of the cover before I have to replace it I would be happy. If you guys decide to get one let me know as I have a few tips that will help you secure it.
Thanks Hammy , I just watched the video which was nice. That would be good for the tractor but I'm thinking the wife wants the boat out of the garage too.
It's gotta be a cold out on the St.Lawrence River this time of year. Cargo ship runs aground in St. Lawrence River
I picked up six bags of pellets the other day on my way for the yearly checkup, we put the pellets in today using the tractor. I had the new battery charger/maintainer on overnight so it wasn't a problem starting it, with the wind chills forecast to be in the -30's tonight I have the charger/maintainer on. I did make time to push some snowbanks back with the 4540.
I decided to check the hose clamps on the 4540 today (a few needed tightening) and then let it get warm before I scraped part of the driveway, I'll get the battery maintainer back on it for the next shot of cold weather. Tomorrow we'll put more wood in so we're ready for the next couple of days of cold weather.
I might have missed it but what did you end up getting for a maintainer? No start on the tractor this afternoon so I put my charger on 2 amp for a few hours. It started after that but the clamps are a real pain to get on the battery contacts. I am thinking of picking up one that has the leads attached right to the battery.
Advance Auto Parts - Down for Maintenance We bought the above from Advance Auto Parts, we're using the clamps until the weather gets better then we'll get the smaller leads hookup. It's the 3 amp battery charger/maintainer 6V/12V
Thanks. I am going to check out a couple tomorrow after work and hopefully get it installed. The clamps on my charger are barely on and I don’t want to leave it unattended. About a foot of snow will be hitting us Thursday so I need the tractor ready for Friday morning clean up
Since that -42 windchill took most of the juice out of the battery, I had to hook the trickle charger up overnight and once it was charged the maintainer went on. I want the smaller leads on too but need some hardware for the negative post first, I might need just one nut for a small bolt on the quick disconnect.
We put two loads of wood in and then I scraped the driveway down (not pictured) after the driveway was done I did the new plow zone we made this summer (pic 0024) and the last trail I did goes to the sandpit. I did plow out near the outdoor fireplace (pic 0023) which brought down some deer, we had about 17 eating what they could find on the backhill.
Tomorrow we'll bring in two more loads (Red & White Oak) and then it will be time to put the eye screws on each end of a pine log that we'll be using for a drag behind the tractor for some trails around the house.
