Yes. It will keep me out of trouble and I enjoy it most of the time. I have to call the “do not dig” number this week to get them to mark where the phone line is that runs underground and parallel to the main road. I don’t want to be digging that up! Quite a few stumps and rocks to remove.
We lost quite a few trees in our windstorm during the last 36 hours. This morning it was time to start cleaning up. The Echo CS 680 and the 3550 got a workout today. We had some trees come down inside and outside the horse pasture. One tree took the fence down. Several others were completely inside. So I guess we were lucky. Especially with this one below. This tree fell and landed right on top of a cedar fence post. Broke off just on the other side. LOL I was able to bust azz with the 680 today and cut up all trees inside and get some of them hauled out. And fixed that section of fence.
This tree came to rest in an old Willow. So I cut it into pieces from the root ball. And then hooked a chain to it to pull it down. Then dragged it off the road.
I’m going to separate any logs that are big enough and straight enough for sawing. See how many board feet of log I come up with. Either sell them to the Amish or have them saw them up for me to build something out of it. Would be cool to have something made from my trees. The smaller, less straight ones will become BTUs!
Your doing great Gasifier, fortunately all mine are down in woods on trails. They can wait til it dries up a bit.
I finished cleaning up the pasture and all stumps out as well. Then went about getting this big PITA Ash stump out between the road and the barn. It fought back hard. It’s roots had grown around all sides and a few went deeper into the clay. But I finally got it out after digging on it for an hour or so. Heavy. After I got it to flip over I could dig the clay off the bottom of it. That is where suction and weight really fight you. It should burn up here! There is a burn ban on though so it will wait until after May 15th. And be done after a good rain and while it’s raining.
Had my friend/neighbor weld me three weld-on grab hooks onto my bucket. This will make lifting and dragging things easier and quicker. 1/2 plate underneath.
Looks like you have been busy Gasifier ! Nice work on reclaiming your pasture. We had some crazy winds as well but no damage unless it’s deep in the forest
Thanks Hammy. It sidetracked me from my other project for a couple days, but needed to be done. Positive side is I’ll get some firewood out of it for next year, and some logs for sawing into lumber.
I forgot the wind blew my daughters trampoline from where I was standing to take the picture to the main barnyard pasture. Bent the upright poles for the net but still pretty useable. Was a bit surprising when I got home from work.
I did make some progress today before I re-arranged my backhoe bucket. Several stumps removed. This guy was coming with me weather he liked it or not.
I was glad I called the dig safe number last week. Within two days I had the go ahead from each utility. And the only one underground, the phone company, had its line marked the next day for me. I was impressed. Getting rocks and stumps moved with the 3550. Using some of the rocks to put on top of a culvert. Then I’ll cover them with smaller rocks and a little crushed stone. The dirt keeps washing away because there has been no grass growing. No chance to yet. My dirt has completely washed away three times now. Time for stones.
That's good news Gasifier. Ill be taking this middle buster back to TSC since a weld broke & some iron bent.
Do you have the county line one? I will go out and snap a pic. I don't want to hijack gassy's thread so ill put the pic in my Kubota thread and tag ya, hang on.....
