Is there any trick to using the chainsaw to cut down into a log like that? When I do, it seems to be slot of downward force. Do you start on a corner and then lower the saw across the round? Do you noodle any part of it?

Need a sharp saw first of all. I ease into the log at pretty good rpms with the end of the bar closest to you down low cutting the front edge of the log, once going I level out and stop about 3 inches above the vent hole. I use too big stumps to brace the piece between them and my foot to sort of keep it tight.
