Scary stuff. Yeah that couldve gone South in a hurry. I was probably the same age when i started with hatchets/axes. Nice save on the felling and good you have impact resistant stacks.

Thats a great area for them to play and reminds me of my childhood.

I’m sure you would have seen similar stumps in the Hilton, NY area circa 1990. I am still amazed that we lucked out on direction a few times. I remember my brother and I used to wait for the right wind to help with that… yikes!
Good reaction by you, though. Lots of learning involved in something like this. He will remember for sure.

Looks like he was going all out on it! At least he's not lazy.

I'm glad I am not the only one that is amazed I survived childhood. I learned in 2nd grade that cattails dipped in kerosene make great torches:hair::hair:

I recall hacking down a small living elm (maybe 2-3 diameter) in the backyard. Think i was eight or so and mom let me. Took forever but i got it done.

Eric, do you think he will start hoarding wood and stacking? Does he have an interest in cutting with you?

Well, on the bright side, no one was injured and as a dad you’ve got to admire his ambition. Maybe next time y’all can do a drop together for a great learning/bonding experience!
