I like it a lot. Id say its best features are the firebox size and that bypass damper. It helps the reloads and cold starts, that's for sure.

It gets my basement up to a nice temp. Ill be using it on frigid nights, weekends, and when company is over.

I never had a stove with a bypass but it just makes sense that it would work better than cracking the door

This Lopi has a deeper ash lip than other Lopis and Avalons. It can hold a lot of ash.

Seems like the more ash, the longer I hold good temps, but more coals I might have to burn down

The benefits of a basement/living area 2-stove plan:

    1. 40% less propane used (too many variables to say it's just the stove, but we've barely used the furnace).
    2. Less "stress" to keep temps up on cold days. I don't have to push the upstairs stove as much.
    3. Fewer temp swings- the whole house stays warmer, allowing faster heating in the morning.
    4. Expansion of living area. We actually use our basement now in the winter!
    5. Mud room- big area to dry clothes after winter activities.
    6. Moisture reduction in basement.
    7. Burning uglies and big pieces that aren't a good fit in my smaller stove. Getting useable heat out of junk wood...

Again, I don't recommend heating a larger house solely with a basement heater. It can work and a lot of people do it, but this 2-stove plan is a better way.
