Four Taco loads of ash rounds I hauled down the hill today. It's been in rounds for 2+ years up there. I though a lot of it would be in various stages of rot but it's all solid and heavy. This is about 25% of what's up there. No more hauling for a while, rain starting any minute and then it changes to snow. By Thursday I'll be able to get it split.
A good bunch of rounds you got there. I love splitter time. While I am using my hydraulic splitter mostly I am thinking about past, huge, gnarly rounds that I have split with sledge and wedge. Mostly I am grinning while using the splitter!
Ditto on that. I think the straw that split me on buying one was some very knotted white birch. A lot of the rounds cut were very straight too and I hand split those myself using a tire and another large round.Thing of it is that I swung so much, crawling into bed to later have some epic pain that would extend into the night. Many other reasons make the purchase a welcome one. I don’t mind splitting a couple of rounds at all, but beating the heck out of a round when it should be in 2- 10pieces or so already isn’t fun.
For me the deciding factor was 66 years on the mother planet! I ain't gots ta prove nuttin' ta nobody no mor!
Reminds me of when I bought the splitter. After putting it together and filling with gas and oil I started. Wow! I was splitting and laughing at the same time. My wife even came out and was also laughing. What really made it so nice is that I had been laid up for a few years but from then on I could once more split wood!
Nice row of rounds, some serious work getting it to that stage. .... Yea, hydraulics allows me to keep burning wood. Now, I’m not sure why it took me so long to get one, but sure glad I did
As we get older sometimes we need help to "Keep on keeping on" Glad you found a workable option. There is no doubt that hydraulics are a game changer!
I know how adamant you are about splitting in the vertical position, but when you first used a hydro was it horizontal Backwoods Savage ?
All that will get processed Thursday. As for getting more, it depends on a lot of factors. The only motorized access I have to that part of my property is through the horse farm next door. The 'rules' are I can only travers the property if it's very dry and the owner is not in town. He's the reclusive Howard Hughes type. We had 1/4 inch of rain followed by 2 inches of snow so I'm sure it will be a few days before I get back up there.
