You need to get a pair uncoated gaiters.

Oh trust me. I am too. That’s a type of heat I have no business being in.

Certainly wouldn’t mind a fresh shrimp/crawfish boil once in awhile!

I have a ported 390xp, with full chisel chain it’s a crazy fast cutter. The chips that shower my right leg feel like I’m being sprayed with water from a hose and it all buries my right shoes in chips. A ported 395 would have a bit more power but it’d be a little heavier also.

I think next spring when I’m making my mad money mowing rural lawns up here in cheese land I’ll get a 572xp and have it ported. I’d prolly run it with a 28" B/C. I really don’t need another saw but what the hell, I figure since most of my firewood is scrounged for free I can spend some moola on some nice saws. Sound good to you? It does to me.

Sounds good to me. I started with one and after a few years of not calling the oil man, cad kinda hit me and I was able to justify having a few more. Now have 12, 4 of them ported. Variety is the spice of life right?

    Update:
I stopped by my small engine shop a few days before Christmas to purchase a new 390 with a 24" and 36 " bar. I was disappointed when I was told it wouldn't be in until mid January. Oh well...I kinda had my mind made up for a while and didn't act upon it. I wanted to be sure so now I wait.

I have always heard it the other way around, the 390XP is the felling sister of the pair, it is Lighter to handle in making face and back cuts, and still plenty quick about it, the 395Xp is better suited to bucking, where the extra weight isn’t as noticeable, but the extra CC’s chew through the longer continuous cut very nicely.

I’m not a Professional, so I can’t speak from experience, but those explanations made sense to me

I have both, with more time on the 390XP, the 395XP’s were hard to find for awhile, with the 36” bar almost buried in a Big Ponderosa, the 390XP put a Smile on my Face

If I had to choose just One, it would be the 395XP, but I do some CSM, and the 395XP has larger bearings, and the extra CC’s don’t hurt, and once the mill is hung on the rails, the extra weight isn’t much of an issue, if the starting end of the log is elevated, the weight can help

I have heard of several guys using the 390XP, so it can still be used there as well.

I can’t imagine that you would be disappointed with the 390XP, I Love mine, but then there is that CAD thing and all ;)

Hi, I’m Doug and I have a Problem, well actually Two Problems

My nephew knows a lot more about chainsaws than I do. He does some logging on the side, sells firewood, and works on saws for people. I discussed those two particular saws with him and he told me I would be happy running either but he just flat out loves his 390 and a few of his friends do as well. They do more falling than I do (not generally more than a dozen or two trees per year for me) but I do more cutting off the forks of the tractor than I do. I also went with the 390 due to it being slightly lighter - cutting for 4-6 hours in the hot sun, I figured lighter would be better in the long run.
