I'm in the UK. A garden tool shop put three on eBay at £160 ($193) each with free postage, which I thought was a good deal. Been wanting one for a while and the combination of price, availability and Christmas gave me an excuse to pull the trigger.

The only problem is it is almost too nice to use. Almost.

I hope you took advantage of their lifetime replacement warranty. Easy peasy. Send pics, describe what happened, get brand new replacement product. How did yours fail?

that is a good price compared to what they go for around here. I bought mine 7-8 years ago. Have split several cords. It shows use but still looks great. The collar helps a lot. I have a few other axes damaged from misses.

I should have, but I didn't. On the head of the maul where there's the hex bolt that connects it to the handle a crack developed that went from the top to the bottom of the head and I just didn't have any confidence in using it any more.
I didn't keep the receipt so I didn't take advantage of the warranty.

For future reference you don't need a receipt for the warrany. I don't have any bolts on my maul (x27) so you must be talking about the Isocore. I find that one way to heavy for the way I swing.

Also for future reference Gerber (plumbing fixtures) is owned by Fiskars and they also offer a lifetime warranty and you also don't need a receipt. They sent me a brand new slop sink brass faucet no cost to me and I didn't even have to send the old one back.

I prefer the feel of a wood handled tool, but I've never come across one I didn't break. If overshooting, it breaks sooner. Even the ones I don't break with an overshoot, eventually the repeated impacts cause the wood to fail. They don't make em like they used to!

The hollow ground or concave GB tends to get stuck. Isocore is the best I have but it gets stuck too. If you like the x27 but want a nicer tool with a wooden handle, I really like the iltis splitting axe from Lee valley. Nice and wide, doesn’t get stuck. Ox head (ochsenkopf?) also makes a heavier maul with same good geometry. They are both also rebranded as stihl. The husky mail looks cool but I know it would just get stuck. :-/

Stringy pine made a mockery of the x27. If they just continued the flare out wider…

Ash or elm yard tree, little bit stringy, I was able to split with a couple whacks from my 3# 28”.
