I was breaking in the County Line 25 ton splitter on some huge ash rounds that I noodled a couple of weeks ago. While noodling I knew I hit something small because my chain suddenly became dull. It was a bit nicked but not bad enough that I couldn't fix it with my Timberline sharpener. Today I saw a tiny piece of metal that I thought was a nail; that is until I got the chunk in the splitter. Turns out it was an old glass insulator! I was lucky I must have just nicked the tip if the bolt. This is the other half. Some of my work
Yikes. Glad you didn't find the meat of that thing with the saw. Will you burn it? I think I'd be nervous about the glass blowing up.
Burn it. In a stove. You've already introduced a lot of stress to it. I would burn it without hesitation.
On closer inspection I would agree with your observation. I think it has been pretty much 'stress relieved' through splitting.
You lucked out, good thing you didn't hit it dead on , probably wouldn't have any teeth left on the chain. I found a big bolt like that when splitting,, but no glass insulator burn it up last year. I bet That splitter is earning it's keep now dealing with those big mofos huh and saving your body and getting more done
