That reminds me of an ash we had that looked almost identical to the way that tree is. I left it for a few years because there were still some leaves growing but when it stopped doing that, down it came. I just started at the top and kept chopping away. Once I got to where the trunk was off the ground after cutting the logs, then I dropped the tree as normal. All went well.
