Got a neighbor that has some long guns set up for long,he regularly shoots 800 to 1000 yards. He also has some set up for subsonic accuracy(with supressors) and they are way fun to shoot.

I competed in service rifle in late high school / early college, I am about half way to 30. Need my leg and another decent place yet. Got married and got busy. Lately I have been thinking about getting back into it.
Back in the late 80's I shot the National Match Course, (200, 300 & 600 yard) with an NRA bolt rifle in 308. Went to Camp Perry in 1986 and shot at the Nationals. We shot the Palma course in Lodi WI. One would think another hundred yards doesn't make much difference when back that far, but boy does it ever. (Palma starts at 800, 900 and ends at 1000 yards)
Watching the real good shooters was pretty amazing. The match course is shot with iron sights and surprisingly enough, they can hold right in there with scopes. (scopes aren't allowed anyway)
