We added a new splitter to the family on Sept 5th. It's a 30 ton, fast cycle Countyline from TSC. It has 9.5 HP Kohler with 19 GPM pump. About 11 sec cycle time. Sweet machine so far.

I have a Yard Machines 25 ton splitter w a Honda 160 engine. Got it brand new back in 2010 for $429 via a Home Depot website pricing mistake. Final price was $602 w tax and shipping :)

Thing fires up 1st or 2nd pull and I haven't had any problems with it in the 8 years I've owned it.

Here's a pic when I first got it hooked up to my old JD 140.

Pro tip: Don't store your firewood too close to buildings. All that firewood in the pic was close to a detached garage and I ended up having to treat it for termites before I moved about 6 years after this pic was taken. No major damage but it cost me some $$$ to have a guy come out and treat it.

! Boy, do I understand that one!!! I just picked up a piece of "plain" 4x4 yesterday and the termites ate the $#!t out of it and it was only there a week or so. was an old piece of blocking I had. That's why all my firewood is on plastic pallets and way up off the ground! They're vicious little B@$tARDs.

Yep. I stopped using pallets. I have my splits on 4x4x8 post up on cinder blocks.

I figured I'd throw this in the thread, My old pneumatic tires on my splitter constantly got flat and dry rotted so I ordered some flat free from eBay, and I'm sure they came from china but they are a spiffy addition to my splitter and real close in color. I'm Sorry, I couldn't help myself! But for $50.00 I couldn't resist and I needed them badly anyway. I put them on yesterday, The splitter only goes around the yard and on a trailer when I transport it so they were perfect. I gotta cut the bolts shorter because you "know" I'll bang shin or ankle :headbang::pain:. Blaze orange tires - good chance they won't get shot, accidently.

After 5 years of splitting on a homemade splitter and wearing myself out lifting the big oak rounds I picked up this splitter a couple weeks ago. I should be able to split a lot more wood and increase production year round. I have split 2 cords of big oak rounds with it so far and really happy with the performance of it.

What a Beauty!!!:tears: I feel what you're saying. My back isn't much good any more. Once they get above 16" in diameter, I put them aside and get help.

I have a 9-years-old Timberwolf TW-P1 with 4-way and log table (no lift). Bought it in April 2009 for $2500. My father and I both use it every year, he splits 5-6 cords of wood and I split 9-12 cords, so it's probably had anywhere from 150-200 cords through it (I have loaned it out a couple times and split for other folks too). A couple minor issues, had to replace the hydraulic pump a couple of years ago and the Honda engine is currently having some minor issues, but overall very reliable. If I had to buy another splitter, I would probably look into a Super Split or similar kinetic splitter. Most of what I split is relatively small, and even the big stuff gets noodled or hand-split with sledge and wedges first.

    Thanks!

That is my 'mobile processor' for wood that is too big or too far from my normal processing areas to be skidded practically. I sometimes will use this method rather than skidding when the ground is wet, saving wear on my waterbars and keeping mud off the logs. Although the RTV weighs almost a ton, its usually pretty easy on my trails...not rutting much unless wheelspin is introduced. Only drawback to this method for me is a little more handling of the wood itself.

The RTV shines for this type of chore. I will always tell people that they don't ride real smooth and aren't fast (this is the older, original design, I think improvements have been made), but I've yet to have it so much as wince at the biggest loads I can put on it. Kawi has a Mule...these things should have been called Draft Horses. Hydraulic bed dump is just awesome. Back up to/onto the spilts pile and push a lever, then head back for more wood. I'm fairly interested in Kubotas new gasser 2 cylinder SxS. A bit more ground speed and better suspenders would be nice, but I wonder if it will pull/haul like the older diesel Hydrostatic design. I won't be ready for anything new for a few years yet due to budget constraints.

Now just get a little orange tractor and take it to the local parades. FHC float.
