I kept mine outside covered for quite a few years and no issues, every time I use it in the winter I fill up the tires a little

If you look closely at the picture, our splitter is under that tarp. We stored it like this for many years with no problems except for summer time when hornets like to nest under the tarp. We also made sure to put 2 pieces of planking under each tire in order to save the tires from rot. It works.

That's really good to see and know Dennis, thanks for sharing! I'd like to get my hands on one sooner rather than later. If I wait till I build me a shed that can be quite sometime as I'd like to get stuff split as soon as I can. Knowing I can keep it outside covered properly and tires up off the ground makes me feel better.

Our splitter has been left outside for 35+ years. It gets a canvas tarp over it and because I'm attached to the polished look I spray some rust preventative on the beam top. Set the tires on planks and lubricate all the moving parts.

That's a good idea! I used to jack my trailers up off the cement and block the axles.

I've only had a splitter for about 3 years now Chuck, but these folks are a testiment of perseverance! I've been lifting my trailers for years and years for long storage. My splitter I built has been outside and double covered. It's always been fine and as Screwloose said, spray it down with something. I use "PAM" yes, you read right, on my beam and it's never rusted. It's vegetable/canola oil and doesn't leave a greasy gunky film. I use it on my Fisher door hinges also!

Mine sits outside also, used to have a little wheelbarrow I turned upside down over it for a cover, dang cheap wheelbarrow rusted out after 20 years! (sarcasm on the wheelbarrow). Now I have a galvanized wash tub, really the engine is all that needs protection from the elements.

Various axes and mall/wedge, the most used ax was the gerber/fiskers 36 inch handle.
