Like it alot Oliver! This was a very interesting thread to read and see. Your pictures are great and your workmanship is top notch.

When you do travel with your trailer to cut somewhere other than home, what will travel with you? The reason I ask is you have the entire setup at home, I should assume wherever you are going will have a loader and splitter?

The splitter works like a dolly & the bucking trailer will be hooked to it. The first photo shows the firewood trailer hooked to the splitter. The bucking trailer would go in the middle. This trailer has a tool box which can hold the firewood cutting tools & a half a cord of wood.

There is also a 12' tilt trailer which holds a cord of wood or an ATV which I could pull behind the bucking trailer in place of the firewood trailer. According to the highway patrol, as long as I don't go over 54' this is legal.

Other than Charity Cuts, probably not. I use to cut, split, & load as I went. Lately I have been cutting around 9 miles away so I take the tractor with a 14' trailer & just load the logs up & bring them home.

    Log Hauler - 14 ft.jpg

I load it up to the top of the stakes. This load is about emptied. (I can get messy & have logs fall as I remove a grapple load.) I have started palletizing the splits to decrease handling so bring the logs home to process works better.

Normally for the Charity Cuts in the Springfield, MO area, one of the organizers makes arrangements to have a tractor available.

The bucking trailer will only be of value is there is a pile of logs available. If we are scrounging in the woods, it will stay home.

Thanks, I have combined lots of ideas from several forums with knowledge gained while growing up.

As always, I am open to suggestions for improvements & new methods for handling & processing firewood.

(I am not & have no desire to be commercial.) Just do it for ourselves & do give some away here & there.

Very nice! What is purpose for the wood lining in tool box?

Easier on the chains/saw than bouncing on the aluminum, protects the aluminum, & semi absorbs bar oil. I also have pieces of styrofoam I use as buffers.

Don't want to hijack your thread but would you care to expound on the charity cut events? Aside from the obvious how does that work?

There are several different groups in different regions. Normally there are organizers who handle the distribution hoping to ensure the firewood gets to those who are truly in need. They also work to locate sites to cut on/scrounge. Then they will alert those who wish to participate of a date/location & welcome those who wish to help gladly. Jobs include cutting, splitting, loading trucks/trailers, & most importantly, feeding the workers.

Workers will bring their own equipment or are able to help others if they come empty handed. It is a great time to share knowledge & interests, put faces to names of great folks you have met on the forums, and help others in need.

If you let use know the area you live, one of the groups would be happy to make sure you are notified the nest time a charity cut is scheduled in your area.

I let others do the organizing. I just show up to work.

Hope to see you at one.

Well tonight I get to put the transmission back in the van. Then --- I will have time to do the modifications I mentioned earlier. This Saturday it will be getting a workout down at a group cut close to Carthage, MO.

Photos to follow once the changes are made. If there is any specific view you would like to see, let me know. There maybe someone who is smarter than me who can do a short video this Saturday.

The pile of logs isn't terribly large for this weekend.. We'll wipe it out in no time.. Should be a good test for "not so straight" limbs...

I enjoy helping others. And I think doing good goes a long way. Sort of like those commercials. When people see others doing good it can continue endlessly. But I want to ask you if you are ever concerned about the people who take advantage of others. Some people really learn to use the system. Instead of getting off of their butts and doing more, they can be using others in order to do less themselves. I know there are a lot of people out there who truly need the help. And I think very highly of you helping those folks. So I guess my question is, how do you know it is going to the right people? Do you even know, or does someone know, who the wood is going to?

Not trying to speak for Oliver but I sincerely believe I benefit much more as a giver than anyone on the receiving end does. Maybe not monetarily but in other ways.

    Agreed...
Besides, Steve and Ed do a pretty good job of discerning who needs it the most.
All I gotta do is run as much wood through the splitter as I can get in a day...

It looks like this trailer will be getting a good work out hits summer. After this Saturday at Carthage, it will be used east of Spring field by Mansfield, Mo. Sounds like it will be a very big cut. If anyone would like to help, let me know & I will get you in touch with Workshop.
