Great video and awesome team work. I loved the fist pump the lady does on the tail gate to celebrate the awesome load you're about to take home A quick question, when splitting it looks like you pick up the wood and carry it over to a pile where you guys then pick up again and stack, for the sake of efficiency would it not be better to move the splitter right next to the pile or to stack the splits when you pick them up from the splitter to save handling twice?
I have a couple of questions: 1. Why were you chasing your wife with the pick-up? 2. What's your secret to getting your wife to help with the wood harvest? Chase her with the pick-up? My wife won't pick up a piece of wood even to move it out of her way!
Thanks. The fist pump was likely her little dance to the tunes we had playing. Although they were just loading up the last few rounds on that full truck, so it was no doubt a sort of victory dance as well. LOL To answer your question, we position the splitter as close to the rounds as possible to save carrying the heavy rounds too far, then it depends on who is helping out and how far the stack is from the splitter. That stack that is closest to the splitter got stacked pretty much the way you describe, but this second stack I started working alone and it was just far enough away I didn't feel like splitting rounds then carrying the splits over and stacking them at the same time, so I just tossed them into the pile and waited till my wife and son came home to help . Sometimes we also use that wheelbarrow to catch the wood after it gets split, then move the splits over to the stacks, especially when the stack is a little further away. Sometimes we'll even utilize a second wheelbarrow and the stacker just pushes the full wheelbarrow over to the stack and leaves the empty barrow to get filled again and just keep rotating the wheelbarrows like that. Yeah, in that sped up video it kind of looks like she's getting chased, but in reality she was just acting as a spotter for my son who was driving the truck. You can't really tell in the video but we were driving off road there on the side of a hill, and the ground was pretty rough and uneven and full of obstacles. We had to do a significant amount of bush clearing just to get the truck into where the trees were. And as far as my secret to getting my wife to help, I'm just lucky I guess. She enjoys the whole wood getting process as much as I do and we try to keep it fun and do it as a family thing. Beetle-kill mentioned another video when my wife and sons were having maybe a bit too much fun with the wood.
Lumber-Jack You gotta have some fun once in awhile. Good to see your wife and her boys enjoying themselves.
