Wow, that sucks Sawdog. Hope the surgery goes good. Bad price to pay for that locust but you'll feel better about it when you throw in some logs and see them burn. "Take that, you thorny sucker!"

You may also be buying a couple more saw chains after cutting up that hard stuff. Let the sparks fly!

    Congrats on the firewood score:thumbs:

Total bummer on the big thorn, I've had a few big metal slivers cut out of my hand at the first aid station at work, nothing like that big sucker though.
I hope you get it out of there quick and heal up fast.
Another guy at work slid across the picnic table seat got a sliver in his butt, went in deep , had to go to the doctor to get that out, was kind of funny but not.

Not knowing anything about locust, I waited until this morning to open this thread.
    WOW!
I'll have to keep an eye on this to see just how it turned out! Two attempts already, huh? Not good.

Reminds me of the time back in grade school where we would slide down the banister going down the steps...about 6" wide and flat.

Yup, a sliver slid it's way into my stomach and broke off as I passed over it. About 4 or so inches long but went in flat under my skin with about 1/4" left exposed. Got home, showed Dad, he pulled it out after grabbing onto the tip with a pair of pliers....talk about a nervous kid!

Good luck to you Sawdog !

Our youngest son did this years ago, we had to go to the E.R. and have it removed from the buttocks! He was not a happy little dude. He never slid down the railing again.

Well guys, the damm thorn is finally out of my hand. Took the surgeon 20 minutes to carve it out of my hand and dislodge it from the tendon of the little finger. 1 3/8" long. They didn't let the wife keep it and she didn't get any pics before they took it away . The anastesiologist said it was one of the better things he has seen pulled out of someone in a while.

Meanwhile, the bucked locust splits sit outside of the kitchen window taunting me, but I was warned about healing first before I get back to work. In due time I suppose.

Thanks again for all the well wishes and be careful out there!!

I had about an 1/8" sticking out when I took my glove off. I went to the barn and thought the needle nose pliers just might get it. Well, It quickly broke off and I didn't budge it. Sure wished that would have worked, because this load of free firewood just cost me about $5000 a cord.
