Its not easy sometimes! I have done eeny meeny miney mo to decide. Once i had five choices and ran out of "MO's" That wasnt the case in my "MO locust" thread though.
Here in CT the Black Locust can be invasive, it grows in industrial parks, highway ramps, empty lots etc. It is a great BTU source.
Nothing like BL on a Monday morning to start your week. Three more trees. Took the 170 this time! Ill make time for the rest on the next trip. On its side and sending out new growth
Tenacious little buggers arent they? Brad, seeing as you remember every picture and mention of wood I know you’ll remember that huge BL and Shag log score I stumbled upon,,,,,but never got. Near a golf course. Anyway the other afternoon I decided I should drive by again. It had been awhile. Pulled into what was once the driveway and damm,,,all those huge logs are gone. Depressing. Got out of the car to make sure maybe there were a few left. Bam, they’re all still there. The BL has overtaken that lot so much you can’t see a stack of huge logs. Never saw so many healthy happy BL saplings. Sporting some extra long thorns too. I couldn’t even walk to the logs. Black Locust jungle.
The grwoth on that little locust log is just since Isaias hit...early August. Two and a half months. The tree i cut in New havne had similar shoots though not as big.
Last trip today so cut for another 45 minutes and loaded. Still five small trees 6-9" diameter there. I discovered more farther down. A domino effect of sorts. Needed room in the bed otherwise i may have cut more. Im done working in the area, but may have more work there in the future.
I got it back last Friday and gave i another chance on Monday and today. Ran problem free. Still probably selling it.
Sure is although when i need the PU for main work and need the room or stopping before or after a long day is a PITA. Lots of jobs i only need a few small tools and PU is empty.
Bucked up what i had on hand Sunday. Split and stacked today. Before. After Another stop at this score down the road. Need a good PU full to finish off this rack. Maybe ill go locust hunting on Sunday!
This is the far left stack when i started. The different color splits are from the restack (groan) i had to do. The rack end wasnt strong enough and had developed quite a lean. Its slightly downhill. I had intended to go 4' high but my BL hoarding prowess has me needing more room so i went higher.
Holy smokust, there's some serious hocus pocus going on in that Locust! Your stacks are a work of art.
Thank you sir! Had to assemble the support section of the last rack. Dont know if he will give me room for a fourth rack. Stacks are 6.5 x12' and will be 6 rows when last one filled. Close to five cords. LOCUST MANIA!
That’s a great idea Eric. They could do a Hocus Pocus spoof with Brad as the starring character. Hocus Locust. It could be about an evil sorcerer who steals Black Locusts souls to become younger and more powerful, cutting Locust down forever. He already has the costume for the Halloween dance til you drop scene.
