Since i had locust for brunch on Sunday and enjoyed it so much i decided to have it for breakfast today.
Working over and hour from home. Interstate maybe 2/3 of the way there. Exiting the highway the other morning, I spot a grove of black locust. IMG_3327.JPG A few of them blown over. Being very close to jo191145 , i sent him a text as soon as i got to the job. He checked them out and too small for him so i got the go ahead. Stopped this morning on my way to the job and cut one tree into sections, fighting prickers and vines and dew. 9" DBH. Six mores trees down...two are smaller and the rest about the same size as this one. IMG_3324.JPG IMG_3323.JPG IMG_3322.JPG IMG_3321.JPG
For a split second i thought the one i was going to cut was a sassafras as the bark wasnt that furrowed. Leaves left no doubt. IMG_3320.JPG IMG_3325.JPG
20 minute breakfast. Much darker heartwood. IMG_3319.JPG IMG_3326.JPG
Plan to have it for breakfast a couple more times!

I have a down one stashed by the parking lot at the offi e. I thought about it today or yesterday as I drove in. I need to pull the trailer to work one day and cut it up. It's blown over I believe and been there years now since I first saw it

That is one pretty grove of Black Locust there... I thoroughly enjoy watching you go after more of this stuff. ESPECIALLY the interstate scrounges which have become my personal favorite. That definitely adds another level to the fun. Hoard on!

Yeah, go for it! That birch will start to get punky if it sits too long.

Locust mania...its a real thing! I have at least one more trip to the job im doing. Need room in truck to bring stuff home so limited to what i can grab. Really dont like tiring myself out first thing in the morning either or stopping after work as too tired. The ramp layout makes it easier to get in the morning.

Nice size! A quick split in half, and your're done with the thicker pieces.

Good job Brad. Clean up that road.
Let me know when you’ve had enough. I may get some twigs to make cookies for the floor. Need little cookies too I suppose.

I had stopped the morning before (Wednesday) and was going to grab some then but it rained the day before so i wouldve got pretty wet, which i wouldnt care if i was going straight home , but spending the work day in wet boots and pants would not have been fun. Wetness was a safety concern too.
Rain forecast here today. Didnt see any for the weekend. Ill grab another tree or two either tomorrow or Monday. Maybe a BL road trip for the rest of it. You and Joe travel for BL, maybe the mania will get worse for me???

These are perfect size for cookies and/or fence posts. The heartwood was darker in the one i cut.

I only need tiny ones. 1-2”. Wether I use them or not is a different story but if I do want them they have to be there and dried.

Do you need dead limbs or green ones? Plenty there. I harvest down to 3-4"

All I can do is chuckle and shake my head, when I see you playing eeny-meeny-miney-mo, deciding which wood cache to hit. :yes:
