We enjoyed our 46 hours at Niagara Falls and now its back on the road again. Last night we were invited to camp at an old Girl Scout camp in Medina New York. Some folks we met along the way bought it last year and are turning it into their home. They were wonderful hosts and even cooked steaks on the grill for our dinner! We stayed up until 1am talking around the camp fire. It was off again this morning at 0700 and 65 miles and 2 rain delays later we are just east of Fairport, New York. Our first rain delay was in a picnic shelter in a park in Rochester, New York. We waited out a serious thunder storm, with high winds and heavy rains, with a pot of hot tea. The second delay was again in a park, this time, in Fairport, NY. Here we shared the shelter with a family of 6. After about 30 minutes of heavy rain the family invited us to join them for a picnic lunch/dinner under the shelter. Great food and conversation for another hour and a half before the rain stopped and we shoved off to our Sleep Cheap east of Fairport a few miles. Enjoying the Falls up close. Entering the Erie Canal country Along the Erie Canal Trail Camping at Camp Bigfoot Dinner with our new friends Home for the night tonight
After 16 days on the road we reached our final destanation at 8:42pm and a 92 mile day! Total mileage for the trip was about 1175. It's nice to know at almost 64 years of age I still can! Some of the standout moments were meeting a couple of the FHC family, Walt, his wife and Scavenger. You'd be hard pressed to find kinder people anywhere. We also met randomly many folks along the way who kindness restored our faith in humanity. Point of arival, Columbia ounty, NY. On the last 1/2 mile, a hill of course. Making a new friend
Not enough time to peddle back. We will rent a pickup and drive home. Then in a couple of weeks we peddle to West Virginia for my 45th. class reunion. Its a short tirp, anout 250 miles.
Some random shots from the road. Cycling through Albany The Egg in Albany The seat of goverment in New York Dinner, yummmm, powered mashed potatoes and canned chicken. Camping at St. Johnsville Marina. Snack time on the trail. Here piggie! The Erie Canal Trail from the saddle.
What a great adventure you had, and boy did you put on the miles! Your pics were great as well! Thanks for bringing us all along on the tour.
Wow. I did 175 last weekend for a charity ride and carried NO equipment other than my flat kit and phone. That kind of riding is another world entirely.
