'Nother Load of the Mother Lode This is my second load from this California Black Oak (Quercus kelloggii). It blew down in 60 mph winds about a month ago. The first load was from the main trunk, green with bark on. This load was from a large, dead scaffold with the bark off. They were both 23-25 in. dia., I calculate the weight of each round at roughly 250 lbs. Even split in half they exceed my load limit.
I built a ramp (just barely visible on the left of the pictures) from a couple of 2x4s. It can be a struggle, but I roll them up. That's why trees are round.
I'm too damm old to work stupid. Once they're up in the truck, they don't hit the ground again. Truck to splitter to wheelbarrow to stack. The only downside is I can't go get more wood until I've split the load I have.
well, not a big load of wood but had the Chev Colorado loaded. Really digging the the new ms 362 cm buy they way. Run a gallon of fuel thru it and its starting to come alive. Figured somewhere between a third or a half cord.
It's not a bad place at all to spend an afternoon cutting. We're very fortunate to have it and this piece of ground in the family. I seem to always gravitate towards that old barn
The last of the Ash trees that were recently dropped around the house. I saved all the odd chunks and dropped them off at a friends house with a OWB. This is the pile of ash that we cut and split. It is 50ft long.
Thanks Boogeyman, I'm about done with it though. 4 good size Ash and one Maple. All the brush, chips and mud lasted too long, I miss cutting in the woods and not having to clean up after myself.
No kidding, my absolute least favorite part of hoarding is when I have to clean up brush out of yards!
