ohhhhh, your referring to "burnouts" killing my tranny's? LOL!! If so, my F-150 would be hard pressed to do a burnout of anykind. It's got a 5,4 l gas guzzling motor in it, but it can hardly get out of it's own way. It's fast on the highway once you get going, but your not going to smoke the wheels on the way up there! No, it's just BAD or I should say HORRIBLE Ford engineering. There are a few parts they put in this tranny that fail and kill the entire tranny. They are known issues. After the 2nd replacement, I have found out that you can take a brand new tranny, open it up, and change out $10 worth of parts, and it will then last forever with no problems. All the tranny shops know about this.... but it costs a fortune for this labor... Oh, and lets throw in, I replaced my head as well, and have since had 3 heli-coils (sp?) in the new head (instead of paying $3,500 to replace it again). That is another known issue on the truck, it likes to spit out spark plugs. All that said, I actually like the truck. But the US engineering back then (2001 and prior) needed some help. My Audi's, Mini (BMW) and Range rover have never had any issues. Go figure! I hope the US car companies are getting better!
Trucks have come a LONG ways since 2001. Every manufacturer has their problems. Each one has something I like and each one has something I don't. I like my GM trucks. But I get tired of having 30-50 less HP than the other guy, an interior that's 5-10 years behind the curve (especially for the money, c'mon!), and an electrical system that sometimes acts like a hand-me-down from MG. I do however, have to say I'm enjoying the reliability and real-world fuel economy of the LS series engines, solid auto trans and powertrain, and the 4WD system that just works like it's supposed to. My buddy's '04 Dodge gets used like a normal half-ton pickup should, has had various powertrain issues and is on it's second rear-end. (The first one was rebuilt.) My co-worker's '01 Dodge has had head issues, trans issues (on it's 2nd one and it's on it's way out?!) and despite winning the "cleanest truck in the parking lot" award for 14 years running, has completely rusted out the bottoms of both doors. My Mom's '04 Ford F150 (4.6L), a daily driven grocery getter/commuter, was in the shop every other week for ball joints, warped braked rotors, seized calipers, transfer case issues, this switch didn't work, that sensor crapped out, etc. She's driving a '13 Dodge now which I like, but we'll see how it ages. (Sure is a sharp looking truck tho.....) Ford needs to fire whatever design engineer thought we all wanted to drive a Hotwheels truck. (I think they toned down the new ones a bit.)
Ha! That's funny right there. My dad had a '74 MGB GT. I know exactly what you're talking about. I learned a lot from that car though. My '09 F150 has been real good to me. 77K on the clock and haven't done anything beside a transmission pan gasket, tires, and oil changes. The cam phasers are, and have always been, a little noisy...but other than that I have no complaints. MY FIL's '08 Sierra hasn't been so kind to him. Every trouble light on the dash is on (ABS, check engine, etc, etc).
They are good trucks once you get the bugs worked out. My buddy had a 2000 or 2001 expe-puke-tion with a 5.4 I beat him on the highway in my 290k Mile silverado and I had a car trailer and mustang without an engine or trans in it on the back. He never lived that down, but the 2000 silverado had cluster issues as well. I traded that silverado in on a used 2008 and the dash looks like a Christmas tree with all the lights on...
another load hauled in today. It was from a huge ash that was cut do an on a friends farm. This is from only 8 rounds off the trunk of it. Will probably got get another load tomorrow morning
Yep 8 and probably another load in trunk before the first limb. I bet there is 3 more or even 4 loads in the top of it :-0 It is pretty big!!
I know the light duty fans have coil springs on the rear axle. Pretty sure the 2500 and up have left springs though.
They were on there when I bought it from my cousin. It also has solid front axle, 400 turbo and a 454 :-0 It is terrible on gas too!!
