That was only 30 minutes from my house. My friend was in town for a meeting and decided to bring his trailer and drag a load home. I guess the scrounging is pretty competitive where he lives. I mostly went along to spend a little time with him and of course running saws and bringing some wood home was a big plus.
Again, NOT my truck... Fergy has been getting the call bringing stuff up from the woods. Had an 80' tall standing dead, barkless Elm next to my power line coming to the house so it had to come down. Splitting dry dead Elm is way better than splitting it green, but it still reminds me of a fiberglass tree. I am definitely not a fan of splitting it, but I'm very OK with burning it... I didn't think of getting any pix till I was almost done unloading the second load on the carry-all. I checked several pieces and all measured between 10-15% moisture content. These don't look anything like Jason's ( The Wood Wolverine ) clean jump-apart oak splits he finds... I back right up to the basement door to load the basement wood racks. The indoor racks are both full and ready for the season. The woodshed however, is only at 1/6 capacity. I have plenty of dry splits stacked all over the farm. I just have to make some time to get some of it loaded into here for the winter. I'll have to move the steer's feed box over to the barn so I can get the other side filled up...
Half cord load of nuggets and shorts. At least 18 months dried. Mostly maple (sugar, Norway, silver) and ash. Customer very pleased and wants the other half cord.
Those are some of the most beautiful nuglies ever! I’d be all over those this time of year. Ran the brush down the chimneys yesterday. Just have to clean my stove out and I’ll be ready to start with it!
I have close to a cord of uglies. Gonna advertise and see if anyone wants them. Lowest grade of wood in the pile is sugar maple. Hard to stack and carry, but will make great heat...or flavor some meat well.
Give it a shot. Ive been surprised when i advertise them for sale. I have one regular for BL nuggets and have a cord of such ready for him.
After we finished cutting at my friends ( see nice white oak in the wood pile threads) I came home and loaded this load of green white oak and Hickory to take to an older feller. I asked him if was sure he wanted green wood and he said oh yeah, it's for deer camp and if I get dry wood it'll be gone in a week.
Well after I hauled the load to the deer culb gentleman he asked me if I would haul off some old wood for 50 bucks. I said yep. It's pretty far gone but will burn in my fire pit with a hot fire. Pretty good load.
Half cord load of dead ash i delivered this afternoon. CSS last June/July. Guy answered my CL ad for nuggets and i sold him this for his fireplace. Funny coincidence. He was buying my bundles from two local gas stations as he's an ambiance burner in his fireplace. Those are pieces from my bundles! He texted last night and i jumped so as not to lose the sale. Another happy customer that will call for more before years end. He should replace a regular customer i lost last year who lived in the same neighborhood. Only two miles from storage to boot.
