Not very often I get fooled on red oak, but you got me that time. It was the cut ends that seemed to have a different grain the redo oak to me. After zooming in it does appear to be red oak bark… …but you have to admit the bark looks similar to pignut hickory in this picture… pignut hickory - Google Search …at least looking at the pictures through this phone. In person the red oak is real easy to distinguish, especially the larger red oak. Pignut gives me fits in the woods sometimes. A lot of times I can’t tell by the bark as some of it resembles young red oak, so I end up having to look for the nuts to be sure.
Last of the two red oak trees I've been hitting pretty hard. Rest on the ground is punky. Probably close to 3 cords in the two trees.
I think we all know the answer to that question, and it isn't wood. At least, that's what I think every time I fill up my econo-truck.
Went back for a second helping. By my count I have 7 full 8' beds of this red oak which should be around 3.5 cord, hoping to get 5 total.
you've come to the right place! We all have it. Ive gone though drought and then BAM...scores galore. Keep on hoarding.
