Yep its a tandem axle trailer. They are 3500lb axles but they only welded a 4000lb coupler on it??? Basically downgrading a 7000lb trailer to a 4000lb trailer?
And this is a "professionally" built trailer that meets DOT regs sold through some kind of retailer? Do they advertise these units? Or just a local builder? I have seen trailers down your way (GA) that sell for much less than what I can buy similar for up here but the price difference is minimal once I figure in transportation costs.
Yea they have a welding shop in Harlem Ga. They have them pulled in the yard for sale and also have a fenced area where they park them. They have all kinds of utility trailers sell towable grills motorcycle trailers. And sell steel garages/carports. To my understanding tjey make them all on site. They appear professionally constructed to me! I have a lone wolf trailer i own that i bought new for i think $1200. It a 16ft tandem dovetail with the removable ramps. It did have used tires when i bought it and has no brakes...another project. But i got it supposedly at cost. This was from the guy iI bought my tractor from totally different business. I will try to remember to buy a local sale type paper the Iwanna and they advertise in there. I will take a picture of the add and post it. Its been 2 yrs maybe since i paid attention maybe there $1500 now?? We will see. The new paper comes out on wendsday so i may wait till then so i can have a new one.
Hey come down this way for vacation and swing by my place. Stay the night and pick up your trailer and two back home. Many of the utility trailers seem to be built in the south. lone Wolf is in alabama if I remember.
That's not even legal to register/sell here. Let alone it's not even remotely safe if the trailer is loaded anywhere near 7K. Were they trailer tires (ST) or used car/truck tires (P or LT designation)? Car/Truck tires on a tandem axle trailer is another no no..... Brakes aren't too bad to add if the axles already have the anchor plates welded on. Buy the backing assemblies, and the hubs/drums, the wiring and it'll take you an afternoon to do it up right. I'm guessing you will have to replace the electrical connector, upgrading to a 6/7 way from a 4 flat. Should run you about $100 a wheel plus the wiring supplies and a controller in the truck. If you do it, get the self-adjusting brake assemblies. They will save you LOTS of time and vocabulary.
Yea there car tires. And I know. Not the best case? I two a 1900lb tractor and implements plus the trailer weight so I figure I'm around 4000lb loaded. I need to youll the tires and see wheat her the plate is on there but I believe it is. Here in SC you dont register or tag trailers unless it business. I think the ones I am talking about for $1400 have new trailer tires on them ST ones. But yeas I know about tires and designations and weight ranges. I sold tires in a previous career.
Yup. I've been looking at a smaller 6x12 10 or 12k and the used market is terrible. I'd rather spend 2k more on a new one after looking. The plan is to buy one after the first of the year.
What else are you gonna do with the axles after you have your home parked? The tires can be thrown on the roof to help hold it down from a tornado Mobile home axles sell for ~$100 here - but they clamped down on the jalopies and require a title&tag on anything tandem or greater
I think I paid $75 each for the 2 axles I used on my first wood trailer build in... um... 19... um... 1984. Been a while. I remember those axles worked just fine. Brakes too.
I had a 28' foot dual tandem gooseneck trailer built in around 1997. $75.00 axles would have cut down on the cost...
OK I wasted my money on the Iwanta paper their add was no longer in it. But I dove down the road and took pics of the trailer. I took pictures of 2 trailers there the same other than the gate. One has one and the other I think has the metal removable ramps to use. I honestly can't remember which one was the $1400 one...maybe both? This is in the yard where the shop is. I should of taken a pic of the shop to prove it. If someone wants to see the shop and responds in the next hour or so before I leave the town I willtake a pic of it as well.
By the looks of the decking, those have been sitting there awhile. That surprises me with $1400 price tags.
Yea I noticed that. But this has been their normal price for years. I did not ask or see a sign maybe they have gone up? I got on their website bit the pricing feature is not working for landscape trailers? Maybe its my phone?
Ok I just called. The trailer with no gate is $1450. Has no brakes or ramps even detachabls with it. Dont know if it use to or not years ago? And he went up $50 in the last fee years.
