Well guys I normally don't buy wood but I had stopped by to chat with the loggers who were working at the neighbors... they had a load of about three cord of skidded damaged hard woods cherry yellow soft maple etc.. literally cutting less than half mile from house.. I was like great I will get some tops that are not 4 foot in diameter to process. We chatted about prices that gave me info I posted in what's a cord cost. They said you want a load? I thought driveway was too bad. then got a call that said blow drive open we are coming.. so I did Problem 1 camera froze, hey its 0 here with 20 MPH winds ..so grabbed tablet because rules is rules
Just got price 50 for delivering 200 for wood, logger says it's 4 cords, he cords usually measure out to 1.25 cord. I am trying to get to the fabled 3 years ahead... it will be so nice to be able to cut and split rounds that aren't 500 pound a piece
yeah good deal, the trucker was like I drove a mile worked for 20 minutes.. I figure blocking it and processing at home on flat was worth twice that! Logger was like it was pulp or firewood only. Got to warm above 10 before I process it.... so this weekend

been having that since Christmas, rain to snow, 4 inches, quarter inch of rain, then snow,t then blow snow, 2000 pounds sand on driveway, than freeze solid and 4 more inches of snow. I thought it was a no go because of ice. Logger showed up said snowblow it open be here in an hour. Trucker said it was easy the sand was great and frozen is better traction than slop. But hey I'm .. Wife is saying get my studded snows on Subaru!
Not much scrounging to be had here, most everybody has stove or fireplace or has a family member that does. Town takes road trimming for the outside wood boiler. Basically I can get 3 plus foot diameter old trees that others won't work that hard to process. While I got 22 acres, a tornado went threw 8 years ago and same loggers cleaned it up for as the edge of woods were all widow maker's left 10 cord and I built a chimney and been burning ever since. I also had only road across swamp so they took neighbors from my drive which they thought was nice of me so they call it karma I call it
Great! Hope you get more so you can get to 3 years ahead. Once you get there, it is easy sledding from then on and wood burning will go much, much better. That had to be a nice deal with the loggers to get rid of the logs and not have to drive very far to do it. Now for that driveway, maybe you'll luck out and get a January thaw to clean up some of the ice.
Driveway, is work but not real mentally challenging.. Step 1 load 10... 5 gallon bucket into back of hatchback step 2 drive 1.5 miles to town sand shed step 3 fill buckets and lift into back of car.. (buckets weigh about 75 lbs) step 4 take each bucket out and hand spread sand Repeat 3 or 4 times.... leave 10 buckets full in garage to make sure you can get out to get more sand When done pour a stiff drink and check FHC
No, not so much mentally challenging but for sure it is a lot of hard labor! We have lots of sand here so during summer months when it is really dry I skim the top layer off (very dry) and fill or as of late, partially fill 5 gallon buckets. Put them in the shed and wait for winter. Fortunately we haven't used any so far this year. Actually, we haven't used much at all the last couple of winters and I had a lot put up. Fortunately I also put up about 6 or 7 buckets of sand for a very dear friend who we lost in November but now his widow has lots of sand to use should she need it. We'll keep her supplied too.
