Ripping big logs isn’t that bad if that’s all you gotta do (other than buck, split and stack…ha ha) They were delivered in log form so a lot of work has already been done. Plus, free oak is hard to beat!

I reckon that’s a real good deal to have in a prairie state.

No sir. They always come over and mess around in the sawdust though. I’ve never figured out why they do that.

I noticed yellow jackets are attracted to some wood when cut, or split.

I spent a couple hours cutting a big red oak and bees were coming around to inspect my work.

I didn't hear any objections coming from them.:thumbs:I even left the wood where I cut it. I will get it out of the woods tomorrow. BTW, this is the first opportunity I have had to use my new to me Stihl 362. It does like to eat and isn't too thirsty either.

Thats great. Always fun using a new (to you) saw. If a screaming deal came up for a 362c id be all over it. I have a 361 already which is the precursor to the 362.

After doing enough cutting to clear the path I did a little splitting and noodling so I could get the wood back to my processing area. I had cleaned up a lot of the brush earlier this summer. I got 4 trailer loads hauled out, stacked and ready to be split. I still have the majority of the trunk to cut up. Then I can start on the other large oak next to it. I measured from the little branch, about 6 inch diameter, to where I stopped cutting on the trunk and came up with 28 feet. Two branches embedded themselves in the ground when the tree fell. I tried digging one out and still can't get it to break free.
1st pic shows the remainder of the trunk to be bucked.
