Yep, pretty bright but still has that cabin feeling to it. Much like the one in Coach-- which I always loved! We will probably give it some light gray color, I would love to figure out how to get even coverage and have some of the woodgrain show through, but not a lot. What type of coating am I looking for?

Semi transparent stain? Got a few scraps leftover for sample testing?

Gotta be careful where sapwood will absorb more... Maybe a penetrating sealer first....

We will have some pretty good scraps at the end, I think. I will start saving them.

Sealer, then maybe a whitewash type stain?
Sealers don't completely fix the uneven absorption, but they do help.
If you do a "whitewash", it won't matter as much.

White wash-- that's what I think we need!

That's what I was thinking - maybe even one marketed for outdoor use? Just one example (click on the type of stain - like semi transparent - then on one of the color squares to have it show in the picture)

Semi gloss paint and mix it with some glaze like the pro faux finishers do. Mixture is key however from what I'm told.

Easier solution would be semi transparent stain, but I don't think that's the look you want.

Watered down solid color stain in grey with a lighter base coat to show thru would look good imo.

Get some sample jars at the home store, and play around with some scraps to get your desired effect.

More progress pics will be coming soon. Lots of plastering going on, so not really anything to show at this point.

The walls are textured on the living room and the lower side of the arch. Paint on the underside will go on in about an hour, once the texture is dry.

image.jpeg First coat of paint is on the inside of the arch. Second coat will be in a couple hours. Tomorrow afternoon we will use the painters tape to mask it off and then put up the blue.

Thanks. Hoping it looks even better tomorrow. And the day after, once we get the construction mess cleaned up.
