SUCCESS!!!!! The saw is oiling again! Fishing the line to the output hole from inside the oil tank was a PITA, but I got it done. I ordered replacement gaskets for the oil pump, but for now it seems alright. Once it starts oiling after the pressure builds up it oozes oil steadily. Gonna be a fine little cutter. :stacke:
The cool thing about this saw is I know it's history. My neighbor has been the only owner before me, and he described what he had used it for. I don't think it has been run very much in it's lifetime. I have the carb kit, but as it sits it runs great so I may wait until it gives me problems before rebuilding the carb. The only issue I need to address soon is a new gas tank because the mouth of this one has a broken off piece and the cap does not tighten. Other than that, lookin' gooder.
I got plenty of plastic tanks in a bin used. Let me know and you can have a tank free, just pay shipping.
I'm sure he does. He has boxes and boxes of saws and parts. There quite a few folks on here like that ;-)
MOst recommend I higher gas to oil mixture because of the EPA. Running a low mixture like 16:1 is probably best as that is what the saw says. I run my 61 at 32:1, although it recommends 40:1.
I wouldnt go with 16:1 that was decades ago when that saw was made. Two stroke oil is far better than then. Many just used 30wt oil and so thats what the ratio is for. I would mix at 32:1 or 40:1 with a quality two stroke oil. Synthetic or semi syn and not loose sleep over it. It will not hurt that saw.
I owned a 2 stroke motorcycle in the late 60s and even then they were recommending a 32:1 mix. No way does anything need a 16:1 mix.
