Yep... the first one has Murphy's Law all over it... of course, the operator is the key... if any load is carried almost dragging on the ground... no prob... imo... I just know, when I get tired, I overlook things fast... and that's where "Murphy" seems to live...
So...... I'm outside doing some noodling. Time to adjust my noodle pile, I shut off my saw, remove my ear protection, and I'm hearing a loud banging. I take a few steps to see my neighbor getting a load of splits delivered. The same neighbor who had the ash tree taken down. All I could do was shake my head and say nothing. With a little effort, he could have saved a few $'s by css'ing the ash I ended up with. Oh well He burns in a big fieldstone fireplace for atmosphere. He knows I burn for heat and that I have chainsaws. I'd have been happy to help him cut up the ash for his use. He must have money to burn. To each their own. Which reminds me..... I still need to get to that pile of ash. Now that we have decent temps, I'll be getting after it!
I wonder if he will pay someone to stack it. Was it just half a cord? Get after that ash, it will be a nice change of pace from oak.
Ummm... that's probably not going to happen. It wasn't from them that i got the ash. It was from the tree service guts that were taking it away. Besides, I need it. I'm on the 3yr plan, but got on it over the past 18months. Most of my stash is oak and needs more seasoning time, as it won't be ready for 19/20.
That sounds like my neighbors that I got the silver maple delivered to my house for free this spring. Same deal. I talked to the tree service and they delivered it to my yard. I see they do have a fire pit outside. They get wood delivered. That silver maple is fully seasoned after a summer in the sun and air. Why pay for what you could have for free? Oh yeah, there's that "work" thing that needs to be done.
Neighbor across the street hires tree service to take down ash trees/limbs I engage tree service and tell them if they don't want to haul the wood away, that it can be dumped at my place. Tree service dumps wood at my place. Win/win. I get wood, tree service doesn't need to handle it. Neighbor across the street has cord of splits delivered from different firewood supply/ landscaping outfit, nearly 6mos later **NOTE Mrs neighbor works for property mgmt outfit. I'm sure they got a decent deal at both ends. Tree service and landscaping outfit, are most likely vendors of her company.
If they don't own a saw that was probably their only options. If they don't have any desire to own or use a saw that will likely never change. And then there's that whole time thing ....
Some people plant a garden to grow their vegetables. Some just go to the grocery store. Not everyone makes the same decisions given similar circumstances. As they say. To each his own.
